As Americans, Rotarians, and proud members of this community, we stand together to honor the nation we love — compassion, courage, and service above self. Our country’s story is not just written in history books — it is carried in the hearts of those who choose to serve. And that spirit of service is the very foundation of Rotary.
Service Above Self is more than our motto — it is the American way. It is the thread that has woven together generations of patriots, volunteers, and everyday heroes who step forward when their communities need them most.
From the earliest patriots who secured our independence to the everyday heroes who serve today, for two and a half centuries, Americans have answered the call to serve — from classrooms to clinics, from patrol cars to fire stations, from military bases to community halls. Today we extend our deepest gratitude to those who serve: educators who guide our children, law enforcement officers and firefighters who protect our communities, medical professionals who care for our families, and the military members —those at JBLM, Navy Region Northwest and especially those stationed overseas— who defend the freedoms we cherish
You are the everyday heroes who strengthen our community and embody the spirit of service that Gateway Rotary proudly champions. We stand with you, support you, and thank you for the sacrifices you make on behalf of us all.
On this 250th anniversary of American independence, may we continue to serve with pride, lead with compassion, and stand united in our love for country and community. May we carry forward the legacy of those who came before us — with gratitude in our hearts, service in our hands, and hope in our vision for the future.
