To our Community,
We are writing to address recent concerns and harm caused by Partners in Prevention Education (PiPE) that have undoubtedly impacted all of us. There has been a lack of consistent management, facilitators, and structure that has led to our inability to serve our participants with the compassionate and reliable care they deserve.
PiPE is a by and for organization, built from the ground up by people who are deeply impacted by systemic harm. We remain committed to supporting our community – of BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ youth and survivors. PIPE wants to ensure equitable accountability and integrity as we begin to rebuild our community relationships.
We want to apologize to those in the community and on our team who have felt retraumatized by our past actions. PIPE will continue to take actions that are aligned with our mission, and to do whatever it takes to rebuild trust.
We are in the process of transforming our organization, working to support the community and re-imagining what it looks like to create a safe space for our community to convene. These steps include:
● Restructuring our programming, to ensure it’s trauma-informed, and engages in relational and anti-carceral practices.
● Bringing on new leadership, including a new executive director and new board members.
● Offering harm reduction supplies, gender affirming supplies and other basic needs to community members.
● Engaging staff and leadership in anti-racist and anti-oppressive training and organizational management, to ensure that white supremacy does not show up in our space.
Additionally, our current board and staff are available to engage in restorative dialogue with community members and partners at any time to address harm caused.
We hope to rebuild trust and stand in community with you again. Please reach out to us anytime via our board email at [email protected].
