Eligible Veterans reside in the Washington and Colorado State regions and are under VA or DoD care recovering from combat wounds, injuries, PTSD, TBI, homelessness, blindness and VI, and other military traumas. Referrals come from trained and trusted VA and VSO counselors who abide by the VetBikes criteria for referrals. We are not structured to handle at-large referrals, ship bikes, or take outsi

de our network referrals. Our Referrals coming from our network in the Seattle and Denver areas use a VetBikes Referral Form filled out by a VA (State or Federal), DoD, or VSO therapist, caseworker, or medical professional stating that the referred Veteran is currently, and has been under their care for a period long enough to determine that the Veteran is showing consistently positive signs of recovery and satisfactory progress in prescribed programs, eligible according to the VetBikes policy stated above, and recommending cycling as a therapy to be part of the Veteran’s recovery profile. This referral also declares that their patient is mentally and physically fit for cycling in public areas, currently lacks the means to procure their own bicycle and without the support of VetBikes would be at risk for not engaging in the recommended cycling therapy.

VetBikes really enjoyed presenting this bike to a transitioning lady Veteran who wanted her best friend and companion to enjoy the rides with her. She has been sighted by a few of us on a regular basis enjoying the spring weather. She has found great freedom and peace, not to mention avoiding isolation by getting outside and well.

VetBikes wants to thank United Airlines for the generous donation they sent us this week. It will go a long way adapting and outfitting the bikes we produce. Thanks to the folks at the "Friendly Skies"!

This bike was presented to a recovering Veteran by our friends Holly and Paul from the WA State DVA. He will be using the bike for to get to job training as he makes his transition from his service. This is a valuable tool for Veterans, and a healthy one at that.

This bike will accept several sizes of disc wheels, and boasts many attachment points, allowing the Veteran the ability to keep active and recover in many cycling disciplines, from road to touring to cyclocross, gravel rides, commuting, and single track outings. A true companion that can adapt to all phases of Veteran recovery. This is VetBike 1 fresh out of powdercoat, stay tuned for pics of it in action and placement with its recovering Veteran partner.

VetBikes really enjoyed getting this inspiring recovering Veteran equipped with an adapted machine that will serve him well getting to classes, outside into our community, and getting him up and down the hills of Seattle safely during his commute. He built the bike himself in our VetBikes shop in Building 9, with a little help from Mike the Mechanic. Note the way it is modified to accommodate single handed operation. Good luck Erik!
