It's the last day to apply for a CRE residency for the 2026-27 school year!! Culturally Responsive Teacher Experiences are a unique and intensive professional development experience in which your team receives coaching, facilitation and technical assistance from Dr. Adeyemi Stembridge. We are offering a limited number of CRE Experiences in multiple formats: a three-day CRE Residency (which includes the classroom experience) and a two-day Intensive Design Studio (which does not include the classroom experience). We are looking for districts or schools in the same region to partner to reach up to 50 participants for each experience. On Saturday the state Educator of the Year awardees were announced! Our 2027 Teacher of the Year is Kori Cannon, ESD 123, and the 2026 Classified Employee of the Year is Dana Wilson, ESD 112. Thank you to all the regional winners who came to Olympia to visit OSPI, attend our EoY summit, and celebrate your peers at the awards ceremony. It is a true joy for all of us on the CSTP team to meet you and learn with you. Thank you for letting CSTP be a part of your educator journey!

Today is marked by many as Indigenous Peoples' Day. This is a day to honor and celebrate native and indigenous peoples, cultures, and land in what we know today as the United States. While not every jurisdiction in Washington state officially recognizes Indigenous Peoples' Day, it is still an important opportunity to learn and teach others about the cultural vibrancy and dark history of people on their native land. This holiday was first officially recognized in 1992 in Berkeley, California thanks to activism and advocacy to push back against uncomplicated depictions of Christopher Columbus instead of reckoning with the colonialism's legacy of violence and erasure. Today we honor that past and continue to work for a kinder future.

Congratulations to the regional Teacher and Classified Staff of the Year winners! We have been listing names from three of Washington State's ESDs every week until the announcement of the State winners on October 10th. This week, join us in celebrating the regional winners from the 123, 171, and 189 regions: Andrea Zimmermann, paraeducator, and Kori Cannon, Multilingual Learner kindergarten teacher; Teresa Vargas, Executive Assistant and District Office Manager, and Amelia Lehman, 4th grade teacher; Kelly Toner, paraeducator (complex needs), and Carlene Ogren, 3rd grade teacher. CSTP was happy to once again host the TPEP Framework Specialists at their yearly in-person convening on Monday! The state specialists for Danielson, Marzano, and CEL frameworks meet twice every year to discuss continued improvement, futher learning, and opportunities to sustain supportive and safe learning environments among teacher and student communities. Congratulations to the regional Teacher and Classified Staff of the Year winners! We will be listing names from three of Washington State's ESDs every week until the announcement of the State winners on October 10th. This week, join us in celebrating the regional winners from the 113, 114, and 121 regions: Tom Harn, paraeducator, and Scott Le Duc, CTE Arts and Technical Education teacher; Megan Lyke, Public Information Officer, and Jaden Friedle, Special Education teacher; Flor Rivera Lopez, Employment and Recruiting Specialist, and Lisa Merlin, elementary school teacher. All right, educators, it's that time again, and I don't mean autumnal fun or classroom rigor. I mean it's time to get your flu shots. Influenza and its now-forever friend COVID-19 are already ramping up (the CSTP staff has seen at least one nasty cold already come home from a teacher spouse!). Pay attention to news from your local pharmacies, medical centers, and districts about when the 2026-27 vaccines will be available, and if you can, do get them. This is still the best way to keep infections down and protect vulnerable and immunocompromised people! Stay safe and healthy out there, everyone!
