Happy Earth Month from Ruby Re-Usable and the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Renwick Gallery --- Make Art Not Trash 💚🌎

For Earth Day, art comes full circle with found objects and recycling.

Artist Robert Ebendorf made “Off the Street, On the Beach” using materials that he collected while walking with his daughter around the beach and on the way to school. He then assembled these found pieces of glass, wire, spoons, and plastic into a playful necklace.

"Portrait of the Artist as a Jewish Mother" made its debut in 2004 for Litter-ally Repolished, a four person recycled art show at South Seattle Community College Gallery, with Ross Palmer Beecher, Marita Dingus, Meng Huang and Diane Kurzyna aka Ruby Re-Usable

Made from mixed recycled media (or in the particular case, domestic household junk): Planet brand plastic dish detergent bottle, plastic straws, plastic cutlery, spray paint cap, New York Times plastic bag, discarded cardboard display letters from a local museum, and a craft mirror

After working at a vaccination clinic during the COVID-19 pandemic she decided to transform plastic waste from the syringes and their caps into something wearable. evocative plastic bag figurative sculptures

Artist Khalil Chishtee is a sculpter creating human form from discarded plastic bags. His works often express the feelings of sorrow, dejection and even victimhood. As they are created from items that are used once and then discarded adds to the layers of meaning in his work. His work is one part commentary on waste and consumption, and one part reflection of the human experience.
