WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE WEST CENTRAL PARK NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER?

If you’ve driven by or walked through our block lately, you’ve probably noticed a lot of construction activity. With multiple active projects, new businesses on the way, and exciting updates at the park, we understand there has been some curiosity about what exactly is happening here. We wanted to take a moment to share a full overview of everything currently in progress and what you can look forward to in the months ahead.

SATURDAY MARKET & THE WEST CENTRAL PARK FOUNDATION

Our fifth season of the Saturday Market at the West Central Park is set to begin in the late spring and run each Saturday through the end of September. Due to current construction, we may be opening later than usual and won’t be announcing the official start date until closer to opening. Please check our website at wcpnc.org/market for future updates. We are looking forward to another vibrant season filled with local vendors, food, music, and community connection. If you are interested in participating as a vendor, musician, or volunteer this season, please email us at [email protected].

Before market season begins, we will complete construction of a permanent concert pavilion in the space where the temporary stage once stood. This new structure will allow us to host free music and community entertainment more comfortably and consistently for many years to come. It represents an investment in the long-term future of the park and in creating more opportunities for neighbors to gather.

Behind the scenes, the West Central Park nonprofit is in the final stages of transitioning from a public charity to a foundation. This administrative shift positions us for a strong new chapter. With this transition, we are excited to welcome back beloved activities such as free public music concerts, summer movie nights, community gatherings, and public art installations. These events are at the heart of what makes West Central Park special, and we look forward to expanding them in the years ahead.

NEW PUBLIC RESTROOM & ORCHARD HOUSE FLATS

We are nearing completion on several important improvements at 135 and 139 Cushing Street. A new public restroom facility is almost finished and will better serve park visitors and businesses on the block.

We are also a few months away from completing the restoration of a historic home built in 1900. The house has been thoughtfully remodeled into two three-bedroom apartments, with special care taken to preserve its historic detail and charm. Orchard House Flats will open applications for new renters later this year.

In addition, we have expanded the block’s shared parking using the True Grid paving system, a green and pervious paving option that has been used throughout the West Central Park Neighborhood Center. The additional parking will help support the growing activity across the block.

Together, these updates improve accessibility and functionality while preserving the character of the neighborhood.

OTHER UPCOMING DEVELOPMENTS

Two additional properties are scheduled for construction later this year.

At 110 Division, a two-story art studio co-op and gallery will provide creative workspace and exhibition opportunities for local artists. This project is designed to strengthen the arts presence in our neighborhood and create a collaborative space for makers.

Another two-story building at 124 Division will soon house a floral shop and a tabletop game store. These additions will bring even more life and variety to the block and continue building a walkable destination for shopping, gathering, and creativity in West Olympia.

THE FOOD TRUCK COURT AT 1909 HARRISON

Over at 1909 Harrison, home to The Park Side Cafe, The Rolling Pin, and our food truck court, we will be adding a fourth food truck stall later this year. Expanding the food truck court allows us to support more small food businesses and offer even more dining options for visitors.

Thank you for your patience during construction and for being part of this growing community. We are excited about what is ahead and look forward to sharing it with you. As always, if you have any questions, please feel reach to reach out to our team at [email protected]!
