During the Fall of 2025, we installed our newest hedgerow at Broadfields Farm, and one of the farmers' goals was to create more habitat for pollinators. And guess what? The pollinators are already taking advantage of the 2,500+ native trees & shrubs that volunteers planted!

We invite you to come see the growth of these plants while helping the hedgerow with some much-needed weeding. Not only will you help these plants thrive, but you'll learn about hedgerows and meet other volunteers!

Upcoming maintenance parties:
- Tuesday, August 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Helsing Junction Farms in Rochester, WA.
- Thursday, August 27, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Broadfields Farms in Tumwater, WA. (We'll have pizza! Be sure to mark your preferences on the sign-up form.)

Join us for some late-season volunteering camaraderie (with optional light supper!) at beautiful Thurston County farms. Our wonderful hedgerow demo-site farmers are busy producing local organic food for our community and could use our help keeping weeds at bay so that their young hedgerows will flourish.

We will provide Vic's pizza (vegetarian, with options for vegan/gluten free as needed) and local, organic salads for our evening events.

We'll be at Broadfields Farms on Tuesday, August 18, 4-8 p.m. (with supper break), and on Thursday, August 27, 4-8 p.m. (with supper break). We'll also be at Helsing Junction Farms on Tuesday, August 25, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

As always, "Come when you can, stay as long as you want" is our motto!

Two weeks ago, we explored a peatland in Grays Harbor County as part of our last eco-excursion of the year. We had a lovely time learning about so many different plant species while visiting such a rare ecosystem that we only get to visit once every other year. Thank you to the instructors and participants who joined us on this adventure!

If you’re interested in being updated about upcoming eco-excursions like this peatland class, be sure to subscribe to our mailing list. These classes often fill up quickly, so joining our mailing list gives you the best chance of securing your spot.

Plants shown in order:
* Drosera rotundifolia (Round-leaved sundew)
* Kalmia microphylla var. occidentalis (Western bog-laurel)
* Triantha occidentalis ssp. brevistyla (Sticky asphodel)
* Utricularia sp. minor (Bladderwort)
* Vaccinium oxycoccos (Small Bog Cranberry)

Last fall, volunteers helped us install our largest hedgerow to date over a series of planting work parties. The plants and trees you see in this image have since grown significantly! We invite you to view its progression on June 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. during our maintenance party. We will be staking the trees and weeding around the plants to help this hedgerow continue to thrive. (Plus, you'll get to see some really cute cows!)

We had a lovely time exploring McLane Creek Nature Trail yesterday evening and teaching people about the native plants that live there.

While we don’t have any more plant walks scheduled for this year, do consider joining us during our McLane Trail Maintenance Parties! We spend that time stewarding the trail by carefully trimming vegetation while casually botanizing as we go. It’s a great way to practice your plant ID while keeping your hands busy with a critical task that benefits all trail users (and you'll get to meet some amazing people at the same time!).

Dates: June 26, July 17, August 21, & September 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Thanks to all our friends who joined us last Wednesday during our Annual Volunteer & Donor Gathering. It was a pleasure to spend a lovely evening connecting and enjoying each other's company while recognizing the hard work of all of our volunteers, donors, and community partners. We celebrated Chris & Kevin Cornell of Broadfields Farm as our Community Partners of the Year!

We wouldn't be able to do what we do without our stellar team of volunteers! Thank you for your dedication throughout the past year. We are only able to support local water resources and improve habitat because you help us salvage thousands of plants, install hedgerows, steward local trails, teach the community about native plants, support our nursery operations, and so much more. We deeply appreciate our donors and community partners who make it possible for us to offer these opportunities to the public. Thank you!

We look forward to next year's celebration!
