Today, our hearts are heavy as we stand with our brothers and sister at Lacey Fire as they mourn the loss of Firefighter Jake Johnson.

On behalf of the members of Thurston County Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 3825, we extend our deepest condolences to Jake’s family, friends, coworkers, and everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Outstanding work by our Thurston County Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 3825 members from the West Thurston, East Olympia, and South Thurston Bargaining Units, who responded alongside our mutual aid partners to this afternoon’s fire in Grand Mound.

Through a coordinated response, firefighters quickly contained the fire, protecting nearby homes and preventing it from spreading further. We also wish the injured civilian a full and speedy recovery.

We are incredibly proud of the professionalism, teamwork, and dedication our members demonstrate every day while serving the communities of Thurston County.

Today, we join our brothers and sisters across the fire service in mourning the loss of three federal wildland firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while battling the Snyder Fire in Colorado.

Our hearts are with their families, friends, coworkers, and the crews who continue the difficult work under incredibly challenging conditions. We also keep the two injured firefighters in our thoughts and wish them a full recovery.

Please join us in keeping these firefighters and all those affected in your thoughts as we honor their service and sacrifice.

Three wildland firefighters died Saturday during their response to a pair of Colorado wildfires, federal agencies announced early Sunday morning.
