One thing about military life… it can feel isolating sometimes.

And sometimes the hardest part isn’t even what you’re carrying—it’s trying to explain it to people who just don’t understand.

Sometimes you don’t need someone to “fix it.”

You just need someone who understands the long days, the sacrifices, the unpredictability, the solo parenting seasons, the transitions… and everything in between.

That’s why we’re doing this.

A simple coffee meet-up.
A safe place to vent.
To laugh.
To connect.

Why the Poppy Matters ❤️

The red poppy is more than a flower—it is a symbol of remembrance, sacrifice, and hope.

For the VFW and Auxiliary, the Buddy Poppy honors the men and women who have served our country, especially those who gave their lives in service and those who returned carrying visible and invisible wounds of war.

Inspired by the poppies that grew across the battlefields after World War I, it serves as a powerful reminder that freedom has never been free.

Each poppy we wear is worn in memory of those we’ve lost, in honor of those who served, and in support of veterans still needing care, connection, and community today.

When you see a Buddy Poppy, we invite you to pause and remember the sacrifices made by so many. By supporting the VFW and Auxiliary through the Buddy Poppy program, you help us continue serving veterans, military families, and our local community year-round.

Memorial Day

Today we pause as a community to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than a holiday—it is a day of remembrance.

A day to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who never made it home.
A day to speak their names.
A day to honor the families, loved ones, and fellow service members who carry their memory forward every day.

Their sacrifice secured freedoms we hold dear, and their service will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends today, we invite everyone to take a moment to remember those who gave everything for our nation.

From all of us at Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 318, we honor the fallen, we remember their sacrifice, and we hold their families in our hearts—today and always.

Today, on Armed Forces Day, we honor the brave men and women who have answered the call to serve our country. 🇺🇸

To every service member — past and present — thank you for your sacrifice, courage, and commitment to protecting our freedoms. Your dedication does not go unnoticed.

As members of the Auxiliary, we are proud to stand beside our veterans, active-duty military, and their families not just today, but every day.

🇺🇸 THANK YOU, OLYMPIA/TUMWATER COMMUNITY! 🇺🇸

Our hearts (and stomachs!) are so incredibly full after this morning. We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who came out to VFW Post 318 Ira L. Cater for our fundraising breakfast today! 🥞🥓

Because of your amazing support and generosity, we took a huge step forward in raising the funds needed to bring The Wall That Heals to our community this coming June. Seeing faces old and new coming together for breakfast to support such a meaningful cause is a perfect reminder of what our community is all about.

A special shoutout to all of our incredible volunteers who woke up early to cook, serve, and keep the coffee flowing—we couldn’t do this without you!
