APTA Washington has created a Physical Therapy Clinic Visit Toolkit to help clinics host meaningful visits with state legislators from June through December.

These visits provide an opportunity for physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, staff, and patients to share the real-world opportunities and challenges facing our profession.

The APTA Washington Delegation came together on Saturday for a full day of collaboration and preparation for the upcoming APTA House of Delegates (HoD), taking place July 12–13 in Portland, Oregon. Together, our delegates reviewed more than 30 motions that will help shape important discussions and decisions at the House.

The House of Delegates is APTA’s representative body, where delegates from across the country speak and act on behalf of members to establish policies and positions that guide the future of the Association and the physical therapy profession. Delegates also elect APTA’s national leaders.

APTA Washington is proud to have 12 voting delegates representing the voices of Washington physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students at the national level.

This Pride Month, we’re excited to highlight the APTA PT Proud Special Interest Group (SIG) 🌈 and share a message from Dr. Chris Condran, Chair of the SIG.

PT Proud envisions a physical therapy profession where LGBTQIA2S+ people and allies of all ages and abilities are fully affirmed and supported—able to move, participate, and live with dignity, autonomy, and joy.

Their mission is to advance the health, mobility, and well-being of the LGBTQIA2S+ community by uniting physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, students, and allies through advocacy, policy reform, peer support, education, and affirming clinical practice.

Founded as a grassroots effort led by DPT students and physical therapy professionals, the group has grown from a Catalyst Group in 2017 to a Committee in 2018, and into a Special Interest Group in 2023. Since its first presentation at CSM 2018 in New Orleans, it has continued to expand its presence and membership within APTA Academy of Leadership and Innovation (APTA ALI).

The SIG continues to strengthen both the profession and the community within APTA by fostering connection, dialogue, and belonging. Their work advances inclusive, affirming care and helps expand access to physical therapy services, supporting a more equitable and welcoming profession for clinicians and the communities we serve.

Meet Your Mentor — JUNE Open Mentorship Office Hours

Join us for Open Mentorship Hours on June 10 with Janae Chinn, PT, DPT, Board-Certified in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, a dynamic clinician and leader with experience in outpatient orthopedics, pelvic health, and travel physical therapy.

Janae graduated from Duke University in 2021 and has been actively involved in APTA Washington since her student years, serving as Advocacy Chair for the Student Special Interest Group. She currently serves as the APTA Washington Legislative Committee Chair and State Government Affairs Liaison (since 2021), and was elected to the Board of Directors as Practice Panel Director in 2024.

During her time in leadership, she helped coordinate Washington’s first Advocacy Dinner and supported key legislative efforts, including the passage of intramuscular needling legislation and expanded business ownership opportunities for PTs and OTs alongside chiropractors and physicians. She was also nationally recognized as an APTA Leadership Scholar in 2024.

During mentorship hours, Janae will discuss:
• Red and yellow flags in the pregnant population
• Exercise considerations for the pregnant body
• Orthopedic considerations during pregnancy
• Q&A

When she is not working, Janae practices as a travel physical therapist and continues to advocate for advancing the profession through policy and leadership.

Janae looks forward to connecting with attendees, sharing clinical insights, and supporting those interested in expanding their knowledge of pregnancy and rehabilitation.

The APTA Washington Board is meeting this morning to continue the important work of advancing the profession.

Today’s discussions focus on turning ideas into action, strengthening our governance structure, and aligning priorities to better serve our members and the profession.As part of our commitment to effective governance and sustained progress, the Board is transitioning from quarterly meetings to an every-other-month meeting structure. This change will create more opportunities for collaboration, accountability, and momentum as we work toward our strategic priorities.

Together, we are building a strong, sustainable future for physical therapy in Washington.

This Pride Month, APTA Washington is proud to feature member Ken McGee for their meaningful contributions to advancing inclusive, affirming care and expanding access to physical therapy services in the community.

Ken’s work highlights the importance of allyship in physical therapy and its impact on creating safe, supportive environments for all patients within the LGBTQIA+ community. From strengthening therapeutic relationships to supporting equitable access to care, their perspective underscores how inclusive practice benefits every patient and family we serve.

Ken is a physical therapist with Hinge Health, focused on expanding pelvic health access in rural and underserved areas, an adjunct faculty member at Tufts University’s DPT program in Seattle, and a frequent lecturer on topics including gender-affirming care and pelvic health. Their work reflects a deep commitment to community impact, education, and improving access to care.

APTA Washington is honored to highlight members like Ken who are helping to advance equity, education, and inclusion within the profession and the communities we serve.

This past weekend, the APTA Washington Board came together for meaningful strategic framework discussions—centering on our “why,” refining our Mission and Vision, defining the values that guide our work, and setting goals that reflect the top priorities of our members.

These conversations were thoughtful, intentional, and forward-looking as we began shaping a framework that will guide APTA Washington through 2030 and beyond.

Change does not happen overnight—it is incremental, purposeful, and built over time. What stood out most throughout the weekend was the Board’s commitment to making decisions that will strengthen our association, advance our profession, and create meaningful impact for our members and the communities they serve.

None of this work happens in isolation. The future of APTA Washington is built through the engagement, insight, and dedication of our members and volunteers. Together, we are creating a strong foundation that will support the profession not only today, but for years to come.
