TRANSFORMING WATER ACCESS & HEALTHCARE IN KAKAMEGA NORTH SUB-COUNTY
Exciting progress is underway in Kakamega County as we prepare for Phase 2 of the Rainwater Catchment Tank Construction!
Our technical team has successfully concluded comprehensive site surveys at Mukhwabuye, Chegulo, and Sheywe dispensaries to map out building structures and storage requirements.
• Addressing Critical Needs: Facilities like Mukhwabuye Dispensary serve about 45 patients daily alongside 7 staff members.
• Solving Seasonal Shortages: Mukhwabuye currently consumes 2,500 liters of water weekly, but currently faces severe water scarcity during dry seasons due to a lack of adequate storage.
• Facility & Community Impact: The rainwater harvesting systems will secure clean, reliable water for medical operations, general cleaning, and safe drinking, while also benefiting around 20 neighboring households.
• Materials On-Site: Interlocking Soil Stabilized Blocks (ISSB) have already been delivered to all three dispensaries (Mukhwabuye, Chegulo, and Sheywe), clearing the way for construction to begin immediately!
Reliable water in primary healthcare facilities saves lives and upgrades service delivery. Stay tuned for more updates as building begins!

Progress Update: Rainwater Catchment Tanks Project!
We are excited to share major progress on the construction of four rainwater catchment tanks across our local health facilities: Kidinye, Iduku, Makanya, and Kegoye Dispensaries!
Key Milestones Completed:
• Outside Plaster Works: Outer plastering across the tanks is officially complete, giving the structures a durable and protected finish.
• Top Lid Installation: Our team has successfully fitted and secured the main top access lids.
• Collection Point Lids: Metal lids for the water collection point chambers have been fixed in place.
These steps bring us significantly closer to delivering clean, reliable, and accessible water to healthcare workers, patients, and surrounding communities.
A massive thank you to our hardworking team on the ground for their dedication and craftsmanship! Stay tuned for more final updates soon.

Today was spent building the forms in situ for the poured concrete top. Pics are of carpenters building the wooden forms, and masons covering the form with plastic and then tying the rebar. The wooden form will be removed piece-by-piece through the service hatch when concrete has cured.
