The flag for Juneteenth is blue and red with a central white star (as seen below). It was created back in 1997 and intentionally looks like a restructured Texas flag because Juneteenth happened in Texas.

Why is this flag important? Because it represents the liberation of Black Americans and reflects a ‘fresh new prescriptive” that our country can move forward.

ASL is a visual language, which means communication starts with access. 👀🤟

Before giving directions, asking a question, or trying to get your child’s attention, make sure you’re in their visual space first. When your child can see you, they can receive your message and fully engage in communication.

Getting into their visual field isn’t just about gaining attention, it’s about creating opportunities for connection, language development, and meaningful interaction.

✨ Pause.
✨ Get into their visual space.
✨ Connect first, communicate second.

Small changes can make a big difference in supporting your child’s access to language. 💙

If your child comes in for a well check-up and you also share a new concern (an ear that's been hurting, a rash, a medication issue, etc.), we are happy to address it, but doing so may add an acute visit to the appointment. Insurance is then billed for two separate services on the same day, which often results in a copay or deductible charge. *This is an insurance billing rule, not a Pediatric Associates of Abilene policy.* We would rather care for your child today than make you come back. Thank you for your understanding!
