As with all great modern collaborations the Olympia Film Collective was born from a Craigslist ad. Jeff Barehand and Russell Brooks were in pre-production on their short film, “The Sweet Sorrow,” when they discovered Riley Gibson's craigslist posting for Olympia based filmmakers. Along with Dylan Glockler, a Monsanto based cinematographer, the group held their first script meeting over black coffe
e and eraser dust at the Cafe Vita on 4th. Soon, the four local filmmakers were collaborating with the downtown Olympia business community to get “The Sweet Sorrow” made, casting out of the Capital Playhouse, and shooting on location at both the Brotherhood Lounge and the Volcano V***r Cafe. Working together on this initial production helped to establish not only a productive working relationship, but friendships that continue today. Since “The Sweet Sorrow,” the filmmakers have collaborated on numerous productions. Most rewarding, was competing in the 2013 Tacoma 72 Hour Film Competition from which the OFC brought home two awards: BEST FILM and BEST USE OF DIALOGUE. At this time, the group is currently working with local reporters on writing a Noir feature based on real stories from the Olympia's underworld, and will soon be releasing their seventh short film, Where I'm Calling From.
