As your State Librarian, today I donated two books for America 250 to the librarian at Opportunity Elementary in Spokane Valley. Tomorrow, I will sending two more copies to our State Regent to donate on that side of the state. The librarian was very happy.

Today we, Spokane Falls DAC were at the Chewelah Pioneer Cemetery. We received a grant for the Pomeroy Marker and also put in a Never Forget Garden and a plaque explaining it. Our The Home Depot Foundation boys were there and did about 90% of the work as several of our expected crew were not able to make it at the last minute. We provided lunch and drinks for the crew and within about 4 hours the entire job was done. We will be having a dedication on June 12th. There are 167 Veterans buried in the cemetery.

The State DAC "Spring Fling" took place at the Nat Washington House in Ephrata. 15 intrepid ladies came from both sides of the state to share reports, information, and camaraderie. Eight of us stayed in the Nat Washington House, and 7 in a nearby hotel. Mike Scellick was a consummate host.

Eight of us stayed in the Nat House, and the others

For the spring meeting we had 15 members present at the Nat House and 4 on Zoom. We had a full business meeting preceded by boxed lunches from Christ Kitchen (to support impoverished women by teaching job/life skills and a talk from Mike on the Washington Family.

Some ladies came on Wednesday, Mike gave tours, and talked about the Washington Family. He treated us to a tea party, and we included a cake for Michaelann's birthday. We were also treated to a talk from Marilyn, who is a descendant of George Washington's family- it was very interesting. On Thursday night, we had dinner at the 12 Hawks Restaurant and then had a pajama party.

Our hosts treated us to a tea party with bone china, many types of tea, and special breads. We also had a cake and celebrated Michaelann's birthday. We were also given a chance to view many items of the Washington family, including letters from the 1600s, a letter from Alexander Hamilton's wife,12 Hawks and many other historical gems. Mike also regaled us with more stories of the Washingtons and the house.

Marilyn gave a presentation of her lineage back to Mary Ball - if was fascinating ~ later, she hosted a pajama party.

We all met at the 12 Hawks for dinner.

Mike rents the house for guests. If you want a great family vacation that is also educational and fun, rent the house and spend a couple days. Go to the house and go to the museum and there are other points of interest as well.

Wow what a day!! Celebrating Historical Preservation Month and our nation's semiquincentennial.
We would like to thank our partners in this endeavor, the Jonas Babcock Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Spokane Chapter #1 Sons of the American Revolution, Spokane Falls Chapter, and Washington State Society Daughters of the American Colonists, and Mike Scellick. We dedicated a historical marker at the Nat House in Ephrata to honor Nat Washington, the "Conscience of the Senate," and a descendant of the George Washington family.
SAR presented the flags and led the pledge. Jonas Babcock presented the City of Ephrata with a Certificate for Historical Preservation to Mayor Pro Tem Matt Moore, who read a proclamation from the city. He and Mike Scellick unveiled the new marker.
Various speakers highlighted the life of Nat Washington II. We finished the day at El Agave with an enjoyable meal with great company. Attendees came from both sides of the state for the event.
