Celebrating INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY in Congo today!

Neema shares her gratitude for the life full of blessings she has since coming to live at Ishara House. In a country where women have been extremely brutalized for way too long, we encourage our beautiful girls in as many ways as possible to become powerful women in the future.
🙏We are grateful for your support to us to enable all this transformation.

With love,
Clare and Ginny

Of tragic and very true and powerfully stated words Jeff Foster (www.lifewithoutacentre.com)

Many of our beautiful Ishara House children have experienced this prior to coming to us. Part of our overall care for them involves providing ways, including holistic ways, to deal with these lived experiences.
We are aware that it is often a life time of healing that is needed……..
🙏🥰☮️🕊️

Take a few minutes to look into the sweet faces of some of our children as they headed off to school this week.
This adds to the precious video I posted earlier of them all showing their excitement and gratitude to begin this new school year.

😍🙌🙏

With boundless enthusiasm this week, our Ishara House children began the new school year!
This was particularly rewarding to see after the strong challenges they and our staff have had to endure in the past 12 months.

Your support is what makes this possible. We are deeply grateful to those of you that contribute to our efforts.

With love,
Clare and Ginny

Yesterday, June 20th was WORLD REFUGEE DAY.

* it is a day to reflect upon the millions of refugees worldwide, almost all of whom, through no fault of their own, have been forced to flee from their homes, communities, cultures as a result of war, famine, oppression and civil strife.
Let us salute them, hold them dear to our hearts, and help them…….

We, at Congo Threads, want to be part of honoring, creating awareness for and assisting however and whenever we can with refugees in Congo.
-There are currently around 7 million Congolese who are internally displaced persons (IDPs).

While our main focus is, and will always be, our children at Ishara House, we have also assisted with refugees in the area.
(I’ll attach a few photos here)

The DRC government does not give support for them, and international aid agencies?…..let’s just say it’s quite complex and disturbing to witness this lack also.
But we have done our very best in the past few years, and will continue to do so with your support.

If you feel moved to donate to us specifically for this purpose we would be honored to continue this very needed work.

A JOYFUL REUNION PARTY 😁
-This celebration at Ishara House was to honor our dear friend/director Herman Chirihambali’s first time being with our children and staff for many months.

Since the end of last year the armed conflict escalated to such a degree that life in the region (eastern DRCongo) became unbearable. Thousands of innocent people have been killed. Many thousands have been forced to flee and become refugees, both within the borders of Congo and to neighboring countries.
It really has been a horrific humanitarian disaster.

Luckily Herman was able to be in phone contact almost daily with our house mothers and staff in Mujwidja but journeying there was not possible till last week.

These precious photos were taken by Herman on the day of his return last week.

We are so excited to share the following video and photos of the wonderful Easter Sunday celebrations at Ishara House (Mukwidja, DRC).

It’s a joyful reminder to know that despite very concerning on-going challenges currently occurring in Congo, that our beautiful children were able partake in a delicious feast, lovingly prepared by our amazing and tireless house mothers - Chibalonza and Salome.
And as always, and of course…. music and dancing! 🤩

Incredible thanks to Herman Chirihambali for his facilitation of ALL of this love and care that our Ishara House children receive.
And for your ongoing mentorship to them. We cannot thank you enough Papa Herman.
🙏💕☮️

Many big thanks to our supporters who sustain our work.
If you or anyone you know would like to support this important work, we would be most grateful!

There is so VERY much to report to you all.
I have been quite remiss in not posting here about it.
Please do forgive us for that.
The past 3 months have been incredibly challenging…..

Let me start here - at the end, or close to the end hopefully, of this ‘journey’.

This is the happy video taken earlier this month when our Ishara House family had safely returned from yet another evacuation.
On this particular morning, the children put on their school uniforms, grabbed their backpacks and supplies and greeted us all before heading back to school to continue their education.

Forever grateful, hopeful and resilient.

They are an inspiration to us all 💕

More info and stories coming here soon.

Easter Celebrations at Ishara House last week included much wonderful music and dancing.
This particular video of the girls dancing features in front (in pale orange shirt) the VERY precious little boy - Benedicte 😍
I’ve watched several times. Can’t get enough of him!

Our children are truly exemplifying the latest stunning poem by Jaiya John
JOY LIVES
(excerpt below)
‘Joy is the heat cascading out from the flame of faith that we can be joyful.
We must tend to the fire of our faith.
We must believe that joy lives in us without pause, through loss and pain and all conditions.’
