June 19, 2026: This time of year the fish are nesting and laying eggs, so when you are raking aquatic plants in the shallow water, don’t rake where the fish are nesting.

How to find the nesting fish? Look for a small pile of rocks and a fish fanning its tail while swimming in place. Sometimes the fish will go forage for food away from the nest, so if you see the pile of rocks, don’t rake those. Photo: Paula R. Lowe

Pattison Lake Association folks: The volunteer lake research team will gather aquatic plant samples monthly to identify plants growing in our lake, the amount of growth since the previous month and the density of growth. Last fall the invasive Eurasian Watermilfoil (EWM) was found near the boat launch and eradicated with an herbicide. UPDATE: It was found near the WDFW boat launch in June 2026. See photos of the plant below. Watch for new plants growing.

UPDATE: If you see or suspect you see EWM, contact the Pattison LMD. Email BOTH of these people in case one is out of town: [email protected] - Chris Maun. Also email: [email protected] - Mark Muenchow. Send them a photo of the plant if you can see it from the water, your address and your phone number. Someone will contact you to identify the EWM or aquatic plant.

Do NOT pull the plants because they fragment easily and then re-root somewhere else.

☀️When outdoors in the heat, wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing to reflect heat and sunlight. If you will be spending time outdoors, hats are also a good idea to protect your face and scalp from harmful UV rays. Also don’t forget to apply sunscreen!
