July 22, 2026. Red flag warning. Read below.

High fire danger: The City of Tumwater is under a “red flag warning” from today through 2 p.m. Thursday (July 23).

Red flag warnings are uncommon in Western Washington, especially in the Puget Sound region. They are issued when weather conditions create a high risk for wildfires to start and spread quickly. These conditions include:

• Low humidity
• Gusty winds
• Warm temperatures
• In some areas, dry lightning

According to the National Weather Service, you can help reduce the risk of wildfire by:

• Avoiding outdoor burning, including campfires and yard debris burning
• Not using spark-producing equipment (lawnmowers, chainsaws) near dry grass or vegetation
• Properly disposing of ci******es and smoking materials
• Avoiding parking or idling vehicles over dry grass as exhaust pipes can start a fire
• Making sure trailer safety chains are secured and not dragging

Please use extra caution while the warning is in effect. A single spark can quickly become a wildfire under these conditions.

Stay informed, stay safe, and help protect our community.
