Passing through Washington, D.C., Cincinnati, St. Louis, Kansas City, central Colorado and Lake Tahoe, it crosses some of the most beautiful parts of America. The highway was once referred to by Time Magazine as “The Backbone of America.”

As Route 50 traverses south-central Illiinois and southern Indiana, it connects two industrial centers - St. Louis and Cincinnati, a distance of 350 miles - and

it also services an important agricultural area in the nation’s heartland. Louis and Cincinnati, will bring new economic development opportunities to the area, as well as provide better access to the river terminals for the many grain producers in that part of Illinois and Indiana. And the resulting improvements will be a great safety benefit for residents, travelers and commuters driving to work. The U.S. Route 50 Four-Lane Coalition is made up of individuals, organizations and governmental entities who stand united in support of this upgrade; Investing their efforts toward bringing about the State and Federal legislation that will secure funding for this much-needed change across the southern portion of the State of Illinois.
