Kiwanis Club of Olmsted Falls

Kiwanis Club of Olmsted Falls Founded in 1927, the Kiwanis Club of Olmsted Falls works at carrying out the mission statement.

The Kiwanis Club of Olmsted Falls has been a fixture in the community since 1927. While many things have changed since then,, our mission has always been service to our community. The local community of Olmsted Falls and Olmsted Township has always been generously supportive of our fundraising efforts, which has enabled us in turn to be supportive of a variety of worthwhile projects and entities.

Through vehicles such as pancake breakfasts, spaghetti dinners, patron subscriptions, and the like, the community has provided us with the necessary funds to sponsor activities such as those listed elsewhere on this page.

On June 2 our speaker was Olmsted Township Fire Chief Matt Schneider. He detailed many programs available to residents through the fire department. Some of these are CPR training, child care seat installation, the smoke detector program, the lock box program, and the file of life. Information about these and more can be found on the Township website. The club also recognized Pete Algotson with the Legion of Honor for his 40 years of Kiwanis membership.

Every year the Spiritual Aims Committee of Olmsted Falls Kiwanis selects a club member as the Lay Person of the Year. This year’s choice is Kris Correll. The custom is for the previous year’s selection to give a talk explaining what the award has meant personally. Dave Pohlman relates the meaning to him.

On May 5 Olmsted Falls Kiwanis hosted Ashley Oeken, President of Engage! Cleveland. She told us that the focus of the organization is to attract, engage, and retain young professionals to the Cleveland area. She described the numerous events and programs that the group hold every year. It truly was an "engaging" presentation. An additional highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the Legion of Honor to two longtime club members. Garry Thompson was honored for 40 years of membership and Dick Terlep was acknowledged for 45 years.

The thoughts and prayers of the club members go out to all those affected by the recent fire in downtown Olmsted Falls. One of our members was personally affected as Dr. Scott Sedlacek lost everything in the devastation left at The Eye Place.

Our last meeting renewed a traditional program where we host members of the high school academic team. A quiz bowl competition is staged giving the students a chance to show off a little as they battle a team of Kiwanis members. This year the students squeezed out a victory by a score of 61-40. But the proverbial good time was had by all.

Our Annual Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast was another great reminder of what this community does best—show up, pitch in, and make it count.

A sincere thank you to everyone who donated to our raffle baskets. Your generosity added so much to the day and helped us create something fun, engaging, and impactful for our guests.

We’re grateful for each of you—and for everyone who came out to support the breakfast. Proceeds go right back into the work we do for children in our community.

That’s Kiwanis. 💙

At our meeting on April 7 we inducted two new members. Joining the club are Chad Gluss, Mayor of Olmsted Falls, and Don Woods, former member of Kiwanis with Centerville and Metro-West clubs. Our speaker was Dr. Kandice Marchant, also known as the Cheese Doctor. After retiring from her position as a pathologist with Cleveland Clinic, she has become an expert in cheese making. Her presentation was fascinating.
