Flight Academy, OBAP is excited to provide a new facility that offers life-changing training for students who possess a desire to fly. The Center of Excellence gives more than 1,000 underserved youth exposure, training, mentoring and scholarships to inspire careers in aerospace annually.

New Memphis Flight Academy to Increase Diversity

OBAP held its ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers Jr. Flight Academy (LWFA), a new facility with plans to increase the diversity of the airline industry by 50 pilots per year within the next 5 years.

Named for one of the first African American air traffic specialists for the FAA at the Memphis International Airport, the LWFA will offer FAR 141 and 61 Flight Training, JET Transition Training, a Maintenance and Air Traffic Control Academy, UAV Pilot Training, Air Force Candidate Flight Training and a Military Rotor Fixed Wing Transition program.

OBAP is grateful to have the support of community-based partners including Shelby County Schools, Air Venture Flight Center, CTI Professional Flight Training, Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (NBCFAE), Memphis Blackhawks, Tuskegee Next and Taste of Aviation.
