Our Dad
Our dad passed away in May of 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. He always had a passion for sports especially golf. He was known for his dedication and sportsmanship no matter what he was playing. And he thoroughly enjoyed any friendly competition.
Our dad was a talented golfer and wrestler throughout high school. He attended Glennville State College on a golf scholarship where he was named to the NAIA All American Team. After college, he continued his career in golf as an assistant and then head pro at Green Hills Golf Club in the Rochester area. Even after leaving the golf profession, he was always willing to give tips and pointers to fellow golfers and loved mentoring youth golfers while running the Penn-York Junior Golf League from 2009-2016.
Our dad started to become very sick in the summer of 2016 but he didn’t let that stop him from running Penn-York because he loved it. To honor his memory and to continue his legacy for providing opportunities for the youth in our region, our family has established the John Forrest Memorial Scholarship through the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
This Fund will provide an annual scholarship award to a graduating senior who has participated in an athletic program as a teenager. We want to support youth who exhibit characteristics our dad was known for, dedication and sportsmanship, as they continue their education pursuits.
