LAAF provides families of children on the autism spectrum and developmental disabilities with sensory-friendly events and information on therapeutic, educational, and community resources. Certain stimulants that a typical person may take for granted (bright or flourescent lights, crowds, loud noises, wide open spaces) may be too overwhelming for some of these children. Because of this their famili
es choose to restrict their outtings in public and many children with SPD's have rarely ventured out to the local malls during the Holidays for any special events. Our goal at LAAF is to provide these families an opportunity to bring their child to a sensory friendly enviorment, that has been designed with these children in mind, where they can have an opportunity to enjoy these special holidays. Last year we hosted over 70 families and their children at our Sensory Friendly Santa event and over the years, disbursed almost $30,000 in need-based grants to assist the families with approved therapy for their children.
