Hello,

My name is Julian Willis and I oversee the community aspect of Soldier Ride Babylon and Hamptons, a program of Wounded Warrior Project.

To start, if you are unfamiliar with the event, it is a unique cycling opportunity where community members can register to ride 25 miles alongside injured veterans and raise critical funds for WWP through a personalized fundraising page. Soldier Ride Babylon is on Friday, July 19th and Soldier Ride Hamptons is on Saturday, July 20th. We launched online registration last week! https://communityfundraising.woundedwarriorproject.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=cms.page&id=1051

I was wondering if Long Island Bicycle Club would be interested in sharing information about Soldier Ride with your members? The Soldier Ride in Babylon includes the ability to cycle over the Robert Moses Causeway!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Best,

Julian Willis

"Michele's Ride to Remember'', a four day bicycle tour (July 27 - 30, 2023) to remember the victims of Sept. 11, 2001 and honor first responders. I've been organizing this ride intermittently since 2015, which not only honors first responders but also pays tribute to the five alumni from my alma mater, Seaford High School, who were lost that day; FDNY Battalion Chief Thomas Haskell, FDNY FF Timmy Haskell, NYPD PO John Perry, Robert Sliwak and Michael Wittenstein who worked for Cantor-Fitzgerald.

Seaford HS 9/11 Patriot Award was established shortly after the attacks to honor and remember the five alumni by giving five graduating seniors a monetary scholarship which exemplifies the qualities and characteristics of these men. The Ride to Remember is a fund-raiser to help support these scholarships.

During the four-day bicycle tour, we visit fire districts to thank firefighters for their commitment and service to the communities they serve. A commemorative "Ride to Remember patch" will be given to the firehouses we visit. We also stop at 9/11 memorials, individual fallen FF and PO memorials and police departments along the route. Please reach out to me with any questions at 585-354-7708 and visit https://ridetoremember.jimdofree.com/ to read more about the event.

We're back with new routes, new date!!! Our four-day tour will be adding Long Island this year! That's right we'll start day one at the famous Montauk Lighthouse ending day three in the Bronx. Day four, our final day, will start at FDNY Squad 18 and end at Seaford High School 9/11 Memorial. *Click i...

2023 NYS Legislature Bills Affecting Bicyclists & Needing Bicyclists’ Support

New York Bicycling Coalition, Director Emeritus

The New York Bicycling Coalition (www.nybc.net) participated in the New York Families of Safe Streets Coalition (https://www.familiesforsafestreets.org/new-york) lobby day at the Legislative Office Building in Albany. Participants personally presented the case to New York State Senators and Assemblymembers to vote to pass six (6) bills during the current 2023 legislative session. Each of these bills are designed to make it safer for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other vulnerable road users to use New York State’s streets, roads, highways, and bridges.

During the 2022 legislative session three different NY FSS/NYBC Coalition bills promoting bicyclist & pedestrian roadway safety were passed by both houses of the legislature and signed into law by Governor Hochul.

The NYBC urges all readers of this post to contact their NYS Senator and Assemblymember to pass these bills: [If you do not know who represents you in the NYS Senate, go to https://www.nysenate.gov/ and click “Find Your Senator.”
If you do not know who represents you in the NYS Assembly, go to https://nyassembly.gov/ and click “Who is my Assemblymember?”]
Then send your NYS Senator & Assemblymember an email stating, you want these bills passed during the 2023 legislative session. It is best to give the Legislator the bill title & number. Or simply copy this chart on to your email. Most of these bills were introduced into the Legislature during the 2021-22 session. These are the updated bill numbers.
