The Old Saybrook Land Trust (OSLT) is in the process of purchasing a 14 acre parcel (Town ID 058-034-0000) from the Old Saybrook Racquet Club (OSRC). The club is offering it to us at a very attractive price in order to save this beautiful property from development.
This wooded property already has an extensive trail system that OSLT will expand for public use once acquired. A pristine 6 acre pond sits in the middle of the property and feeds a wetlands area that is the beginning of the headwaters of Hyde Creek in our recently acquired Ayer's Point marsh property. (see GIS map )
It has many native and relatively rare plants, as well as serving as a haven for resident and migratory birds. Other features include a secluded vernal pool.
We have just signed a Purchase Agreement with the OSRC. We are currently negotiating for a loan and have learned that a larger down payment will make it easier for us to get approval and may entitle us a lower interest rate.
Therefore we are trying to quickly raise an additional funds for a potential closing in early July.
Please consider helping us preserve this unique property. Donations can be made by sending a check to Old Saybrook Land Trust, LLC, P.O. Box 109, Old Saybrook, CT 06475 or by credit card on our website oslt.org
