Horseshoe Crab Tagging was very successful! We had many volunteers, and tagged 47 crabs in just two hours! We could have tagged more, but ran out of daylight. Thanks to all who joined us, and a special shout out to Tamzin and Duncan, for their tagging help.

Old Saybrook Land Trust Newsletter -

Here it is April already!  Although the weather has been brisk, there are many signs of Spring in town. You can see emerging wildflowers and Osprey returning from their wintering grounds. We have lots of activities and opportunities coming up that we wanted to share.  We hope you stop by and say ...

Yesterday afternoon I set up my critter cam at our Ayers Point property at the corner of Essex Rd and Ayers Point Rd. To my delight I captured a Bobcat, Coyote and Fox. Nice to see that wildlife is prospering there.

POSTPONED AGAIN: NEW DATE Sunday, APRIL 13, 10 AM

Join us for our Spring Salamander and Vernal Pool Discovery Walk, 10 AM, Saturday, March 22. Kids, young and old, will see spotted salamanders, fairy shrimp, frog eggs, and other critters active at this time of year. Meet in the parking lot at Clark Community Park, the far end near the woods, 170 Schoolhouse Rd., at 10:00AM for a short walk to a very active vernal pool. Kids and adults are welcome, but no dogs please. Rain or shine. This fun event can be as up close and personal as you like. Rain boots are a great idea, especially for little folks who like to get very close to (or slightly in) the water

STEWARDSHIP SATURDAY- March 15- 9:00am to 11:00am

All are welcome to help or stop by to learn more.

A Tree Service, working for Eversource , recently cut brush under the power lines at this location. Some large pieces were left behind. Our task is to load some of this into my truck and pile the rest “out-of-the-way” to allow future mowing of this area. Hopefully this will allow control of the invasive plants that dominate. Tools of choice- loppers and clippers, hand saws, your favorite implements, and of course GLOVES. Hopefully we will have warmer temps and sunshine! Most of all, have FUN! We are returning to scheduling stewardship sessions on the third Saturday of each month. Additional projects on other dates will be announced as needed.

We hope to see many of you. Address of this location is the driveway at 66-72 Ingham Hill Road, just north of McDonalds.
