DONE DEAL - THANK YOU!!
The board of directors of the Old Saybrook Land Trust is pleased to announce the purchase of a 14 acre parcel from the Old Saybrook Racquet Club. This wooded property already has a trail system that the OSLT will steward and possibly expand for public use. A pristine 6-acre pond sits in the middle of the property and feeds a wetland area that is the headwaters of Hyde Creek, located in our recently acquired Ayer’s Point property. The parcel has many native plants and serves as a haven for resident and migratory birds. There is also a secluded vernal pool.
We would like to acknowledge that this land acquisition project was supported by the Connecticut Land Conservation Council's Land Conservation Council’s Land and Easement Acquisition Program.
Also, the project was funded in part by the Mary Janvrin and Natalie Janvrin Wiggins Fund for Birds, Other Animals and Nature at the Community Foundation of Middlesex County.
We want to thank those amazing organizations, as well as our First Selectman Carl Fortuna and the Town of Old Saybrook and of course our members and residents who supported and encouraged us, as this acquisition would not have been possible without their generosity.
Our goal is to have this open to the public in a few months once we have created a small parking area and performed some needed trail maintenance.
We are proud and excited that we were able to purchase the parcel and preserve and protect it for generations to come.
