Out of an abundance of caution, the following sites on the Pisgah National Forest are closing in preparation for potential impacts from Hurricane Isaias:

- Pisgah Visitor Center
- Cradle of Forestry Heritage Site and Discovery Center
- Black Mountain Campground (including NFSR 472 South Toe Road from the campground toward the Blue Ridge Parkway)
- Briar Bottom Campground
- Carolina Hemlocks Campground
- Curtis Creek Campground

Additional closures may occur as conditions change.

While much of the Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests will remain open, visitors should use extreme caution. Strong winds, heavy rainfall, and localized flooding are expected throughout the weekend.

Stay dry, stay safe, and always remember: Turn around, don’t drown.

🌳⚒️ Meet the Team ⚒️🌳

We’re grateful to have Christina as part of the G5 Trail Collective Team! Christina leads partnerships and initiatives that improve trail access, leverage resources, and drive local economic growth through sustainable outdoor recreation and collaboration with land managers, agencies, and community organizations.

G5 Trail Collective is the trail program of non-profit Camp Grier and represents partnership between the USFS, local communities, and recreational trail user groups. Camp Grier’s Public Land Programs department is made up of G5, Tanawha Adventures, and Pisgah Productions.

The G5 was conceived in the town of Old Fort as a solution to the lack of funding for trail maintenance and trail development projects in the Grandfather District. The working group recognized that the district is a tremendous asset and could be a driving force to help build healthy and economically vibrant rural communities.

We’re getting more excited every day to bring this awesome community together again at Camp Grier. At this past Spring Trail Work Weekend, volunteers contributed 1,175 hours across 16 different projects. We also had over 25 sponsors and partners show up in support! Now that’s a huge and lasting impact we can make together!

So what do we do in addition trail work…
…we play outside, visit the vendor village, eat more snacks, drink local beverages, hang out and do camp like things, ALL before we gather with our trays in the dining hall for the famous taco dinner 🌮 w/ raffle & awards, plus…the bonfire! 🔥
