This summer…THINK BEFORE YOU HIKE.

The Adirondacks offer incredible views, but many of our trails, including the popular Bald Mountain, are more challenging than they appear.

Before heading out, ask yourself:
• Am I physically prepared for this hike?
• Have I checked the weather?
• Do I have enough water, snacks, and basic first aid supplies?
• Do I have proper footwear?

If an emergency occurs, remember that Old Forge and many surrounding communities rely on volunteer emergency responders. The people who respond to help you are your neighbors, friends, family members, and community volunteers. Many rescues require responders to hike long distances over difficult terrain while carrying heavy equipment.

Our area is also an hour from the nearest hospital, and rescue operations can take significant time depending on location, weather, and available resources.

Before calling for assistance, consider your situation carefully. Can you safely walk out on your own? Is your injury or illness truly an emergency? If you need help, don’t hesitate to call but preparing properly before your hike can help prevent emergencies from happening in the first place.

Enjoy the mountains. Respect the mountains. Come home safely!

The Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corps mourns the loss of David “Dave” Langworthy, whose dedication, service, and friendship touched countless lives throughout our community.

Dave was a dedicated member of the Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corps and faithfully served our community for many years as an ambulance driver. His commitment to helping others, steady presence, and willingness to serve made him an invaluable part of our organization.

In addition to his service on the ambulance, Dave played a vital role in shaping the future of our organization. He served as Chair of the New Building Committee and as Co-Oversight Liaison for the construction of our new ambulance facility. His leadership, vision, and countless hours of dedication helped move this important project forward and will leave a lasting impact on our corps and community for generations to come.

Dave was more than a volunteer, he was a friend, mentor, and trusted colleague. His kindness, dedication, and unwavering support of our mission will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 12, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church in Old Forge, New York. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 13, at 11:00 AM, also at Niccolls Church.

We ask that you keep Dave’s family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Thank you, Dave, for your years of service, leadership, and dedication to the people of Old Forge. Your legacy will continue to guide us, and your contributions will never be forgotten.

Four local ladies came together today in our meeting room to sew handmade teddy bears that will be given to some of our youngest patients during ambulance calls. These special bears are meant to bring comfort, ease fears, and put a smile on a child’s face during difficult moments.

A big thank you to Tracey Down, Jane Cameron, Laurie Clark, and Judy Lonergan for donating their time, creativity, and kindness to this thoughtful project. Small gestures like these can make a very big difference for a child in an emergency situation.

What a wonderful example of neighbors helping neighbors and caring for our community in such a meaningful way.

Please join the Front Door Diner & Back Door Bar on Wednesday, May 27th for a benefit dinner in support of the Langworthy family.

Mr. Dave Langworthy has spent so many years serving our community as a member of the Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corps, answering calls at all hours to help friends, family members, neighbors, and even complete strangers during some of their hardest moments. Now, he needs our help more than ever.

Let’s come together as a community and support someone who has always been there for all of us.

The Langworthy family has given so much to our community, serving as long-time dedicated teachers and volunteers. After an unfortunate chain of recent medical emergencies, it is our turn to show up and support them.

We invite our neighbors and friends to come together on Wednesday, May 27th for a benefit dinner at the Front Door Diner & Back Door Bar.

We brought our simulator to TOW High School, where students in the Responding to Emergencies class had the opportunity to work through real-life emergency scenarios involving head, neck, and back injuries. They practiced proper stabilization techniques and learned how to safely move patients while minimizing further injury.

This is such a great class at TOW. It gives students the chance to practice real-life situations and prepares them for real-world careers and emergencies.

We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and support shown to our organization as we continue working towards completion of our new volunteer ambulance building.

Recently, members of our Board of Directors and our chief had the opportunity to meet with CEO Jeremy Rutter, Chief Strategy Officer Lenora D’Arcy and Mike Murphy of the Community Wellness Partners at the former Presbyterian Home Campus.

Community Wellness Partners has generously partnered with us by donating medical-grade furniture, medical-related equipment, and many other essential items that will help furnish and support our new facility. Their kindness and commitment to community health will have a lasting impact on our organization and patients we serve.

We sincerely thank Jeremy, Lenora, Mike and the entire Community Wellness Partners team for their support, hospitality and belief in our mission. Partnerships like these help make our vision for the future possible.
