We are a family service group with a goal of providing families with opportunities to serve once a month. Wow! Why is this so important to me?

KindCraft is a family service group that we started in hopes of providing monthly service opportunities for families with kids of all age ranges. We wanted the focus to be on building a foundation of service and compassion for our children. What started as a simple blanket making project quickly grew and we were able to take 50-60 blankets to Children's Mercy in December. The January event was to fill Toiletry Bags for Mission Southside. We were hoping to fill 50-60 bags for them and we ended up filling 245 bags!!!! KindCraft has grown beyond anything Courtney and I ever imagined and it is so exciting to see so many people that want to make a difference for someone else. It's important to me because our kids will follow our example...and if I am being honest here, I'm not always the best example. I will be the first to admit that I am way less then the perfect mom/wife. I constantly show them the not so great sides of me and often wonder how I am ever going to get this parenting thing right. Regardless of how many times I mess up, I want my kids to know love. Not only feeling loved, but how to share love as well. I want my kids to know that their parents love Jesus and are following his greatest commandment, to love Him and to love others. I want them to know how blessed they are. How carefree their life is compared to others. I want them to be able to see a need in the world and be moved to do something about it. We frequently listen to a song by Natalie Grant, Be One, and the some of our favorite lyrics are, "Why sit around and wait for a miracle to come, when we could be one!"
This group has amazed me. We may all have different reasons for serving & what we are hoping to teach our children, but we are all rallying together and serving to make a difference for someone else. I am honored and humbled to be a part of this group and hope it spreads like wildfire!

💙 12 DOWN, 68 TO GO! 💙

We're off to a great start with our 12th Annual No-Sew Fleece Blanket Project!

So far, 12 blankets have been committed, bringing us one step closer to our goal of 80 blankets for children and their siblings attending the The Shadow Buddies Foundation's Magical Flight to the North Pole! 🎅✈️

Each little figure on our tracker represents a medically challenged child, or their sibling, who will receive a handmade blanket. As families commit to making blankets, we'll fill in the figures and watch our kindness grow!

We're so excited to bring back one of our favorite KindCraft traditions! For the 12th year, we'll be making cozy fleece blankets for children and their siblings attending the The Shadow Buddies Foundation's Magical Flight to Santa! 🎅✈️

Our goal this year is 80 blankets, and we need your help!

🎉 NEW THIS YEAR! We're especially excited to offer KindCraft No-Sew Fleece Blanket Kits for just $15 each!

We've done the shopping for you! Each kit includes two coordinating pieces of fleece, with lots of fun patterns to choose from. 🐢🦕🐶🚗

You can purchase a kit from KindCraft or provide your own fleece. Make your blanket with us at the event or complete it at home!

It's fun to look back at the myriad of ways we have tried to spread kindness across our community over the years. These adorable button cards were made and shared with our friends at Johnson County Aging & Human Services for their meal delivery program. We hope everyone is enjoying the (somewhat) cooler fall weather, festive Halloween decor as they drive through the neighborhood, and the sight of mums and colored leaves. We love a good theme at KindCraft-themes can be a great way to inspire service projects! What is your favorite way to give back in the Fall?

It was about this time, 12 years ago, that KindCraft's cofounder read a book called Unselfie, because she wanted to teach her two young boys how to be generous and giving.

In this book, Michele Borba says, “Empathy can be instilled.” She goes on to explain that empathy consists of habits that can be developed, practiced and lived. After reading this book, our co-founders set out to find a way to start instilling empathy.

They decided on making no sew fleece blankets for their first project. It became a whole family adventure of choosing the perfect fleece at JoAnn's Fabrics. The boys knew their blankets were going to be donated to kids at Children's Mercy who were in the hospital and we explained to them how the nurses pick one out of their stash that they think the child might like.

As the boys searched through patterns of hearts, unicorns, Chiefs helmets, dogs, firetrucks-they imagined the child who would receive their blanket. This was the beginning of one families journey to instill empathy.

It also just so happens to be what ended up sparking the idea for KindCraft-a place where an entire community comes together to instill empathy. To make kindness and love for others a habit that can be developed practiced and lived.

This is really what KindCraft is all about. 💙

Bringing people together. Helping our kids look outside of themselves. Showing them that even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference for someone else.

And hopefully, each time they serve, they carry a little bit of that with them into their schools, their friendships and their everyday lives.

Kindness really does connect us. 💙

Doing something nice doesn’t have to be big or complicated. Sometimes the smallest acts can make someone’s entire day a little brighter.

✨ Hold the door for someone

✨ Thank a teacher or coworker
✨ Check on a neighbor
✨ Let someone go ahead of you
✨ Pick up a piece of litter
✨ Do something helpful without being asked

At KindCraft, we believe those little moments matter—especially when we give kids opportunities to practice kindness and see the impact they can have on others.

🎅 SACK IT FOR SANTA UPDATE! 🎁

Look at those bags filling up! 💙❤️

We’re already at 38 gifts for local teens through this year’s Sack it for Santa Service Project!

Our goal is to provide at least 100 gifts, which means we’re already more than a third of the way there — and it’s only the beginning.

Each bag represents a teen who will receive a gift chosen especially for them this holiday season. Families, friends, coworkers and groups can all participate — and you can even sponsor a gift for $40 and KindCraft will do the shopping for you.
