Last weekend, medical students from the Unity Clinic OU visited Sisu to provide routine health screenings for our clients! The youth were so excited to participate and learn more about preventative healthcare. Thank you to the Unity Clinic team for taking the time to join us!

Juneteenth is a celebration of liberation and justice. It also reminds us of the delayed realization of both, highlighting the inequities in how freedom has been experienced across the United States, then and now. This day reflects the continued struggle for equality and access to opportunity. It deeply aligns with our mission to support youth experiencing homelessness, who are disproportionately affected by these ongoing inequities.

Sisu validates Black and marginalized youth experiences by recognizing systemic failures and barriers to housing stability. Today, our clients will participate in a Juneteenth workshop led by our Board Vice President, Natasha Kotey, followed by a movie night.

Juneteenth is a reminder that freedom doesn't reach everyone at the same time.

Learn. Reflect. Advocate. Support youth. Support equity. Freedom is a responsibility we all share.

We kicked off Pride month last week by joining OKC Pride Alliance for their opening ceremonies to read and sign their Pride Month Proclamation alongside the ACLU of Oklahoma.

Last week, our clients visited the Oklahoma State Capitol and the Clara Luper National Sit-In Plaza. They learned about our state's beginnings, the Trail of Tears, and the pivotal role Oklahoma played in the national Civil Rights Movement, from Clara Luper's 1958 Katz Drug Store sit-ins to the groundbreaking 1948-1950 U.S. Supreme Court desegregation rulings. Our visit served as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving and learning from our state's history.

Proceeds from Chat Pile's very special show on September 12th at Tower Theatre OKC will benefit young people navigating out of homelessness at Sisu.

Unhoused youth in OKC are finding shelter, but finding a way out is a different story.

Sisu Executive Director Rachel Bradley wrote about it in The Oklahoman, including what it will take from all of us to help change that. Whether you're an employer, a landlord or part of a faith community, there's a role for you in this work.

For Oklahoma City's unhoused youths, community support is needed to help close the gap between a shelter bed and a stable home.
