It’s just about time when that “ugly” cycle of daffodils, tulips and other spring flowering bulbs is over. Hopefully, you’ve left the foliage until it’s yellowing and it can be easily removed. That practice helps them store up plenty of energy for next spring’s flowers and growing a healthier bulb.

Now is a good time to plant milkweed and other pollinator-friendly plants, so they can get well established by the time the Monarch butterflies return in September. This OSU Extension Fact Sheet HLA-6503 gives information about starting native milkweed from seed. It’s quite a process! If you’re not up to that challenge, look for bedding plants from local places that sell native plants.
