After proposals threatened to skip or redirect payments to TRS and other public retirement systems, advocates urged lawmakers to protect pension funding.

The result? Oklahoma protected dedicated TRS funding, funded COLAs for retired public employees, and delivered a major win for retirement security.

"In any case, it’s a really bad look for GOP lawmakers to try to fix schools with funds that had been earmarked for the benefit of retired educators who came before them.

It’s also extremely insulting to all public school educators to rob their future retirement prospects while paying for private school tax credits without proof those schools are actually raising literacy and math outcomes."

If Oklahoma legislators spent the money invested in private school tax credits, they wouldn’t have to mess with their pension investment strategy.
