Raymond Hal Long
Raymond Hal Long was born in Billings, OK, on March 11, 1927, to Lloyd Lones Long and Blanche Ruth (Clump) Long. He left this life on June 9, 2026, in Stillwater, OK. Hal married Lois Jean Renfro in Stillwater, OK, on May 28, 1948. Jean was his high school sweetheart and the first girl he dated. They were married almost 72 years before Jean’s passing in 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother Edwin Long, sister Wanda Cook, and daughter Kathy Disney.
Hal lived a productive life. Some high school activities in Garber, OK, included the Band and F.F.A. He was a member of the State Championship football team in 1944. He served in the Navy at the end of WWII joining in the spring of 1945 during his senior year in high school. Hal graduated while in the Navy.
After returning from the Navy, he attended Oklahoma A&M (OSU) earning a degree in Animal Science with a minor in Business Administration. After graduation in 1950 he returned to Garber and joined his father Lloyd in the John Deere and farming business. Hal was also involved in a farming enterprise, a small oil and gas development corporation, a south Texas farming operation, and other miscellaneous enterprises.
Hal was active in the Garber community through the Methodist Church, the Chamber of Commerce, the Garber Community Improvement Association, Garber Emergency Medical Services, and he was a life-long member of the Garber Lions Club, He participated in many other volunteer activities. He also helped with the creation of the Veterans Memorial Project in front of the Garber schools.
He lived by the Long’s company motto “Service is Our Middle Name,” and the Lions Club motto “We Serve.” As part of two Garber Lions Club fund raisers, he helped place American flags on holidays in front yards and helped take down dead and distressed trees. After moving to Stillwater at age 98, he became an associate member of the Stillwater Noon Lions Club.
Hal and Jean were devoted to faith, family, community, and education. They were supporters of the Garber community, Garber schools, and Oklahoma State University. They established numerous scholarships supporting all the above.
Hal served in local, district, and state positions of the Methodist Church and with Lions Club, including Lions Club International where he served as an International Director for 4 years. He was given many Lions awards including the Ambassador of Good Will, the highest award given in Lionism.
As part of service, he was a member of various organization boards: a few were the Oklahoma Lions Boys Ranch for 20 years (Meadows of Hope); the Wesley Foundation at Oklahoma State University; Oklahoma United Methodist Children, Youth, and Family Services; and the Oklahoma Conference Board of Global Missions. Hal participated in Volunteer in Mission trips to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guatemala, Costa Rico, Mexico, Russia, as well as many trips to help build and maintain Cross Point United Methodist camp near Kingston, Oklahoma.
A supportive family is invaluable. Those who love, are proud of Hal, and will miss him are his son Ken Long and wife Jody, grandson Aaron Long and wife Kelly with great-grands Michael, Daniel, Elsie, and Theo; son-in-law Billy Disney, grandson Dylan Disney and wife Lynnette, and great-grand Leo; sister Elizabeth (Long) Palmer; and many nephews and nieces.
Hal’s memorial service will be at the Garber High School Gym
