We're back with another client story. Meet Adrian 👋

When we met Adrian, he was facing significant challenges and a difficult path forward. He’s been working hard to improve his situation, and his progress has been inspiring.

Adrian completed treatment through Catalyst Behavioral Services and has continued his growth with our community partner, SidexSide OKC. He’s maintained his sobriety, is homeschooling his children, and has even helped inspire healthier choices within his own family.

As a father of 8 (including multiple sets of twins!) Adrian has made it his mission to become the best version of himself for his family. His case manager, McKenzie Conley said, “It’s been so neat to watch his growth.”

Adrian's story isn't over yet, and we’re cheering him on every step of the way. 💚

When we help clients, we also help their families.

Our work has an intergenerational impact. When someone faces incarceration, their absence destabilizes their family and community too. One of the most detrimental effects is when an incarcerated parent’s child must enter the foster care system.

According to Prison Policy Initiative's 2022 study, 3,400 state prison incarcerated parents reported their child ended up in the foster care system. Helping our clients divert the criminal legal system helps keep families together.

We provide free wraparound services, which means team-based, coordinated holistic support for individuals and their families. From parenting classes to grief support classes for children, our stabilizing resources help our clients make better lives for themselves and their families.

We couldn’t do what we do without them. They help us meet client needs every day by providing mission-aligned services. Not only is having partners onsite more cost-efficient for DHub, but it means greater accessibility to clients, who can get more done in a single visit. This lowers the barrier for clients to get what they need and helps them break the cycle.

These numbers represent real people. Our clients consistently show up to court, stay compliant while on probation, and follow through on diversion programs because they’re committed to change and they have the support to help them get there.

These outcomes are proof that when people are met with the right resources and help, breaking the cycle is possible.

We often measure success in criminal justice work through a reduction in recidivism. But recidivism only tells part of the story.

Recidivism measures whether someone reoffends as a simple yes or no. Desistance, on the other hand, recognizes that change is a process. It's the gradual, sometimes nonlinear journey of someone stepping away from harmful patterns over time. It comes with ups, downs, and support along the way.

Emma Winiski, our Chief Strategy Officer, explains it best: "Measuring desistance helps us appreciate the progress our clients make as they disentangle themselves from the criminal legal system. Lasting change doesn't happen overnight. It happens gradually, and recognizing that means we can celebrate real steps forward instead of waiting for one perfect outcome."

Real progress is a series of steps forward. And we're proud to walk alongside our clients through every one of them.

Here’s how our volunteers and interns help us break the cycle behind the scenes.👇

🔹 Administrative support — Data entry frees up our staff to focus on meeting with clients and building positive relationships.
🔹 Immersive experiences — Joining staff in court, trainings, and meetings, or shadowing team members as they work directly with clients.

Past interns and volunteers have gone on to join our team full-time, and we love helping them lean into their strengths and explore where they want to take their career.

How we support emergency and basic client needs 💚

Through our on-site donation closet and a network of incredible community partners, we help provide food, clothing, hygiene kits, period products, pet food, sexual health products, Narcan, and more to our clients.

In 2025 alone:

👕 8,958 emergency needs met
💝 14,900+ items donated by partners
🤝 13,012 partner services provided on site

None of this is possible without our partners, Wings, Period OKC, Nexus Pets, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, OK HIV & Hepatitis Planning Council, ODMHSAS, Homeless Alliance, and so many more off-site organizations who show up for our clients every single day.

This month, we're sharing stories from people who are breaking the cycle. First up: meet Lauren 👋 💚

Before coming to Diversion Hub, Lauren spent 18 years trapped in the cycle of addiction and was facing criminal charges. Once she got involved with Diversion Hub, she started classes, moved into a sober living program, and marked six months sober. When she applied for Drug Court, she was denied for being deemed too high risk.

The DHub team advocated for her until she was accepted into Drug Court in March, opening a pathway out of the system that will support her recovery.

Her Justice Navigator, Teighlor, was with her through it all. Teighlor said, "When she got her Drug Court approval, I cried. I've gone to the plea negotiations, the plea signing, and the Drug Court plea. I plan on being at her Drug Court graduation."
