RIP Don Landis
Branch 458 President Ken Mayfield reported today the sad news of former Branch 458 President, Brother Donald Landis' passing.
Don served in the U.S. Army in Asia during the mid-1960's. He became a City Letter Carrier in the Oklahoma City Installation in 1968. Don became Vice President of Branch 458 in the mid-1980's and President in 1992. Don served as President of Branch 458 through 2005, after retiring from the USPS in 2004. After serving for a short time as a Branch 458 Trustee, Don took over as Branch Treasurer in 2011, through 2025, after the passing of long-time Branch 458 Treasurer, and his brother, Charlie Landis. Don received his Gold Card in 2020.
Any time the branch would ask Don to help with anything, he never hesitated. Don loved nature photography and took many beautiful photographs of birds and flowers.
Don once told Ken that he became involved with the NALC because he would come to Branch Meetings and his Steward did not, therefore he knew more about the contract, Branch 458, and the NALC than his own Steward. Don was a mentor to many and Branch 458 President is strong due to his his guidance and friendship. Rest in peace, Brother Landis.
