Last week, the Simon Greiner Program helped make it possible for athletes from OKCPS Athletics' US Grant, Capitol Hill, NW Classen, and Douglass to travel to the University of Arkansas for the Chile Pepper Relays — covering their hotel, meals, and more.

Over the weekend, we partnered with Oklahoma Pro Series, USTA Missouri Valley, and OKCPS Athletics at Edmond Center Court to help Oklahoma middle and high school coaches level up their tennis skills. 🎾

Seven OKCPS coaches and PE teachers – many new to tennis – spent nearly four hours learning through hands-on instruction, gaining practical tools and resources to introduce the sport, build confidence, and create positive experiences for their students of all skill levels.

A big thank you to USTA Missouri Valley for investing in our coaches and helping us create more opportunities for students to get on the court and into the game! 💚

Did you know Oklahoma City is one of just three designated U.S. Soccer Soccer Forward communities in the country — alongside the South Bronx and Oakland?

This week, Joe Hewitt, Senior Advisor with Soccer Forward, spent two days in OKC touring our local soccer infrastructure and connecting with leaders from Fields & Futures, Oklahoma City Public Schools, Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department, YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City Police Athletic League, Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County, Mas Futbol Foundation, Oklahoma Soccer Association, and more.

This designation creates an opportunity to bring new resources, partnerships and investment into Oklahoma City’s soccer community — and ultimately, expand access to the game for more kids.

The future is bright in OKC! ⚽

At the recent OKCPS Athletics meeting, athletic directors were recognized for their efforts to grow student-athlete participation across middle and high schools. Two Growth Champions and one Green Champion were celebrated for their commitment to getting more students involved in sports. 🏆

These recognitions reflect the progress happening across OKCPS and the collective effort to achieve our mission of getting 50% of students in OKC's urban core on a team by 2030. Every new athlete represents a step toward a stronger, more connected community. 👏

Coaches are building what’s next. 🏆

Earlier this month, OKCPS Athletics' first monthly Coaches Meeting brought nearly 100 coaches and athletic leaders together to connect with resources, develop funding plans, and create strategies to grow participation in their schools.

With most coaches already building a plan to increase participation in their schools, the momentum toward our 50% participation goal is real.

More kids on more teams starts with investing in the coaches who make it possible. This week, nearly 100 OKCPS Athletics coaches and ADs gathered for the first monthly coaches meeting of the school year, connecting with the Wes Welker Foundation about funding opportunities and grant application tips.

With the majority of Oklahoma City Public Schools represented, coaches are putting action behind a shared goal: increasing participation this school year.

OKCPS Athletics cross country athletes recently picked up new running shoes and racing spikes through the Simon Greiner Program and the excitement was palpable 👏🏼

Each year, SGP purchases nearly 2,000 pairs of shoes for Oklahoma City Public Schools track and cross-country athletes, while our friends at Oklahoma Cleats for Kids handle the ordering, fitting and distribution.

It’s all part of removing barriers and giving more OKC kids the opportunity to run, compete and chase what’s next.
