Thank you Sisu for all your runaway and homeless youth efforts.

Last month, we had the pleasure of showing Jeff Olivet and members of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness our current shelter space, and sat down with the Youth Action Board to discuss our upcoming YHDP projects and plans for the future of unhoused youth services in Oklahoma.

The U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness is in the process of updating our Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness. USICH is the only federal agency with the sole purpose of reducing and ending homelessness across the country. Our Executive Director, Jeff Olivet, and myself, Tamara Wright (your Senior Regional Advisor) are visiting Oklahoma and would love to learn from you. Please join us for a town hall to hear a high-level review of what we are working on Tuesday, August 16 at the Credit Union House in Oklahoma City at 9 am. We will be continuously seeking additional feedback from a broad range of stakeholders, including people with lived experiences of homelessness and tribes, to make sure this plan reflects the best and most current thinking. We are very interested in hearing from the Tribal Council in Oklahoma City. This is meant to be an informal, open-ended information gathering session regarding how we at USICH can be better partners to you all and the work you are doing on the ground. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected].

A draft of the Oklahoma Plan is expected to be presented to the Council for review at our meeting on February 19 from 1:30 pm to 3 pm at 400 N. Walker in OKC. Stay tuned for agenda updates, or contact Rebekah Zahn at [email protected].

“Although the motel rooms are a good short-term option, those people often find themselves trapped in a situation in which hotel bills eat up what little income they have, leaving them unable to come up with a security deposit and first month's rent for an apartment, said Dan Straughan, executive director of the Homeless Alliance.” The Homeless Alliance
