****This meeting has been rescheduled to February 7th.****
The board of directors of the Apple Valley Homeowners Association encourages all members to oppose the latest attempt to locate a high-density housing development at the northeast corner of Britton and Sooner Roads.
Residents of affected neighborhoods, including ours, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Oakdale Baptist Church to share information and sign petitions asking the Oklahoma City Council to reject the plan. One or more board members will attend the session, but all Apple Valley residents are welcome.
The owners of the 200-acre property failed in their first attempt to rezone the land to allow for a high-density development. They have returned with a slightly modified plan that addresses a few of the concerns expressed by surrounding neighborhoods, but not the primary issue of density.
Under the new plan, the proposed neighborhood would contain 684 homes and patio homes. (See map.) That means each residential lot would be about 1/6th acre. Lots in Apple Valley, in comparison, are about 1 acre each.
We believe the influx of new residents would create traffic congestion on nearby roads, overburden the Oakdale school district and threaten an already flood-prone ecosystem.
The Oklahoma City Planning Commission is scheduled to vote on the revised proposal on Thursday, Feb. 23. We need to submit our objections at least a week before that date so they can be included in the Commission’s pre-meeting information packet.
We encourage members to attend the Planning Commission meeting. It will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 in the City Council Chambers, 3rd floor, 200 N. Walker Ave.
For more information about the history of this development plan and Tuesday's community meeting, please join the Oakdale Rezoning Information Page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/497786331435874.
We will distribute more information after the meeting for those who were unable to attend but would like to make their voices heard.
Sincerely,
AVHOA Board of Directors

Garret Woods, vice president
Greg Kamp, treasurer
Warren Vieth, secretary
