A January pre-trial date has been set for two inmates charged in the death of fellow inmate Christopher Smith at Mack Alford Correctional Center.

John Purdy and Darrell Melton Jr. appeared in Atoka County Court Tuesday for their formal arraignments on charges of second-degree murder and conspiracy.

According to the court clerk, the two men are expected to enter their pleas on January 26, 2027.

We will continue to follow the case and provide updates.
