Last night over 250 people from 12 member institutions and guests packed Wesley United Methodist Church for Who Is My Neighbor, a Civic Academy about Immigration. The takeaway: immigrants are an important part of our community and VOICE is building power to do something about what is happening.

Yesterday more than 40 leaders from ACTION and VOICE gathered in Chandler for our first Oklahoma IAF Statewide Gathering. We read a Political Theology of Institutions by Luke Bretherton, engaged in relational meetings, and told the stories of the work we are doing in our state from Fines and Fees work in Criminal Justice, Immigration, Crosswalks, to Stray and Loose Dogs. We finished our time together focusing on expanding our organizations to continue to build statewide power to improve quality of life for our families.

Luschen, Little Flower pastor and one of the VOICE-OKC founders, said he was pleased that his church was able to offer immigrants a safe space to share their personal stories. “To be able to tell their stories in their church — their joys, their sorrows — that is what a church community should be about," he said. "It we can't do that, we have to ask what kind of church are we."
