TEMPORARY CLOSURE. CONTINUED OPPORTUNITY.

OIC of Oklahoma County has temporarily suspended normal on-site and public-facing operations from August 24 through September 7 while the Board and leadership conduct an organizational assessment and stabilization period.

The progress of our students and the contributions of those who serve them remain central to this work.

To every OIC student: Your education, progress, and goals remain important. This temporary pause does not diminish the work you have completed or the commitment you have shown.

If you have a test scheduled during the closure, you will be contacted with next steps.

An update will be shared with students, staff, partners, grantors, and the community through OIC’s official communication channels.

For 60 years, OIC has helped adults pursue education, workforce opportunities, greater independence, and second chances. Your support can help OIC build a more sustainable foundation for continued service to its students and community.

Special congratulations to our Remerge/OIC superstar, Coraima Chavez. After finishing off her last test on Wednesday, Mrs. Chavez can officially add her name to the growing list of graduates who will walk across the stage in November👩🏽‍🎓. Dedication and hard work will take you straight to the places you need to go. 🗣🥳

📚 REAL STUDENTS. REAL RESULTS. REAL IMPACT. 🎓

We’re proud to celebrate the hard work happening in OIC’s Daytime GED Program!

During the month of July, our students completed 22 GED subject-area tests with an incredible 92% PASS RATE! 🎉👏🏿

But these numbers represent so much more than tests passed.

They represent students showing up.
They represent determination through challenges.
They represent doors opening to college, careers, better-paying jobs, and new possibilities.

They represent lives moving forward. 💙

And none of this happens alone.

To our instructors, advocates, staff, community partners, funders, donors, and supporters: THANK YOU! Your investment in OIC is an investment in people, education, opportunity, and stronger communities.

Important FIGHT Club Alumni Update

To our OIC graduates,

The OIC FIGHT Club Alumni Association Fellowship Luncheon scheduled for August 22, 2026 has been POSTPONED until a later date.

With several changes currently taking place at OIC, we believe it is best to take a step back, regroup, and make sure we can provide our graduates with the fellowship experience they deserve.

We truly appreciate everyone who RSVP’d, shared the flyer, and planned to attend. This is only a postponement — we are looking forward to bringing our graduates together soon!

OIC of Oklahoma County Announces Leadership Transition

DesJean Jones is no longer serving as Chief Executive Officer of OIC of Oklahoma County, effective August 14, 2026.

The Board recognizes Ms. Jones’ nine years of leadership and thanks her for her service and contributions to OIC, its students, and the Oklahoma County community. We wish her well in her future endeavors.

Loretta Payne-Hammock is appointed Interim Executive Director effective Monday, August 17, 2026 and will serve in that capacity until a permanent Executive Director is appointed by the Board or otherwise determined by the Board.

OIC remains focused on supporting its staff, serving its students, fulfilling its commitments to partners and grantors, and continuing its mission throughout Oklahoma County.

This week, we're proud to celebrate Veronica Barrow!

After 23 years in Corporate America, Veronica made the courageous decision to invest in herself and pursue a goal she had put on hold for far too long.

On August 5, 2026, Veronica passed her Reading test and now has only TWO tests left before earning her diploma! 🎉

Her journey reminds us that it's never too late to believe in yourself, overcome life's challenges, and keep moving toward your dreams.

As Veronica says:

SHE FOUGHT FOR IT. SHE WORKED FOR IT. AND SHE DID IT!

OIC family, help us celebrate our newest graduate, Ashley Campbell! 🎉🎓

Ashley fought hard to earn her GED. Her journey included personal challenges, motherhood, car breakdowns, days without A/C, countless frustrations, setbacks, and moments when giving up might have seemed easier.

But Ashley never gave up on herself.

She kept going. She kept showing up. She kept working toward the goal she set for herself, and today, all of that perseverance has paid off.

Ashley Campbell is officially an OIC graduate! 🎓🙌🏾

Everyone at OIC is incredibly proud to see Ashley reach this milestone. But perhaps no one would be prouder than her former instructor, David. We can imagine him looking down on her today with that familiar smile and saying:

“It’s a great day.” 💙

And Ashley, today truly IS a great day.

Your perseverance is an inspiration. You faced obstacle after obstacle, but you refused to let those obstacles determine how your story would end.

Today, you get to celebrate everything you worked so hard to accomplish.

WE HAVE ANOTHER GRADUATE!

Every GED represents more than passing a series of tests. It represents determination. Commitment. Showing up. Pushing forward. And refusing to give up on a goal.
