Daniel Holtzclaw is a convicted serial sexual predator. If you forgot the details we shall remind you of some specific points.
1. The survivors ranged from 17-57 years old and were all Black women from a very specific side of Oklahoma City. He targeted Black women who were poor and/or had a history with the court system.
2. The GPS system on his vehicle placed him in locations where the survivors stated they were assaulted. But he denied he was there...although his vehicle was clearly present.
3. He called the 17 year old victim's home to check on her. Her mother was suspicious because calling this child was totally inappropriate. He said he was just checking up on her. A mother's intuition felt otherwise.
4. He stalked many of the victims after the assaults to "check on them". It was a textbook intimidation tactic.
5. Not one OKC Police officer testified for his character or professionalism. Not a single one. Also the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) did not help with his defense or defend him.
6. His appeal was denied and the Supreme Court declined to hear the case.
7. He was escalating, taking greater risks and becoming more dangerous.
8. Jannie Ligons, a 57 year old grandmother, was the survivor that broke the case open. She didn't have a record. Although she was afraid, she reported him.
*****
During this trial those women, those SURVIVORS, endured threats, attacks and continuous scrutiny. Some testified in orange jump suits because they were in custody. They were consistently called liars simply because they looked a certain way.
Well, they look like OUR mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins and daughters.
He targeted those women because he thought no one would believe them.
He thought no one protect and fight for them.
He was wrong!
We ask lawmakers to take a long look at the actual trial transcripts. Review what the jurors stated after the trial. The evidence was clear enough for the jury and the appeals court.
ACTION: In Oklahoma, we ask that you contact your representative and senator to remind them BLACK WOMEN MATTER. Remind them violence against women is NOT AN OKLAHOMA VALUE. All women, those who have records, those who are poor and those who are most vulnerable should be safe and protected. Opening this case back up, despite the courts findings, signals otherwise.
To those brave survivors:
TEN YEARS LATER WE WILL HIT THIS GROUND AGAIN!
YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!
WE STILL BELIEVE YOU AND WE SUPPORT YOU!!!
