The Oklahoma Challenge is a nonprofit initiative based out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that focuses on educating individuals on the dangers of engaging in distracted driving activities.
The Oklahoma Challenge was founded by Dr. Richard Coker, a human relations professor for the University of Oklahoma, in 1984. The Oklahoma Challenge was created to address the dangers of drunk driving and encourage young drivers to wear their seatbelts. Following great success in these areas, the Oklahoma Challenge turned its attention to a rising concern: the dire problem of distracted driving.
The Oklahoma Challenge is unique from other initiatives in that it is a teen-led, peer-to-peer taught safe-driving curriculum that empowers student leaders to go back to their respective schools and communities and teach their fellow peers, friends and families what they learned.
