Wildfires have burned thousands of acres across Oklahoma, and some fires remain uncontained.

But disaster impact is not measured in acres alone.

Wildfires disrupt routines, displace families, strain responders, and create emotional stress that can linger long after flames are out.

The Stress Response Team supports communities before, during, and after disasters by strengthening preparedness, resilience, and recovery. Psychological First Aid, responder support, and community education are part of how we help communities respond stronger.

Preparedness protects more than property. It protects people.

If your organization, school, or community group would like training in disaster behavioral health or Psychological First Aid, reach out to SRT at [email protected]

Today is for the caregivers who keep showing up.

Caregiving often includes long days, quiet grief, cumulative stress, and at times moral strain. It also reflects courage, compassion, and a commitment to others in moments that matter most.

If you are caring for family, patients, clients, students, neighbors, or your community, your work matters. Your humanity matters.

Preparedness includes caring for the caregiver.

Thank you for what you do.

Cold weather can change plans fast, but being prepared keeps you safe.

As temperatures drop, now is the perfect time to build or refresh your cold-weather kit. A few simple items like warm layers, backup power, water, and vehicle essentials can make all the difference during winter storms or unexpected outages.

Our team stays ready, and we want our community to be ready too. Stay safe, stay warm, and take a moment this week to check your supplies.

This Thanksgiving, we’re especially thankful for our volunteers and partners who support mental health and wellness across Oklahoma.

As we gather with loved ones, remember to take a moment for yourself: breathe deeply, rest well, and recharge.

Wishing you a calm, safe, and memorable holiday.

Feeling the winter slowdown? You’re not alone, but you can take small steps to boost your mood.

Here are 5 simple ways to beat the winter blues:

Let the light in — open your blinds or step outside for a few minutes.

Move your body — even gentle stretching helps release stress.

Stay connected — reach out to a friend, family member, or fellow OKMRC volunteer.

Keep a routine — regular sleep, meals, and hydration matter.

Practice gratitude — noticing one good thing each day can shift your mindset.

You can’t change the season, but you can care for your mind and body through it. 💙
