It’s not even September yet, but it’s amazing to think that some of our feathered friends are already preparing to head south for the winter. 🐦

Hummingbirds, kingbirds, and buntings are beginning their seasonal journeys. Even our state bird, the scissor-tailed flycatcher, along with long‑distance travelers like Mississippi Kites, will soon start gathering in large migratory flocks as they get ready to leave.

We have a fan, shade, and some amazing telescopes to show you the sun up close with volunteers from the OKC Astronomy Club! Friends of Martin Park has sun themed crafts for kids, and raffle tickets for a bird feeder with built in camera, bird seed and field guide. See you on the east porch of the visitor center! 2:00-4:00.

Alright, rockhounds, get ready for a gneiss time! 🪨 Join us for “Shaping Oklahoma: Geology”, a presentation that’s sure to be faultless thanks to the Oklahoma Geological Survey. We’ll dig into the incredible formations beneath our feet and explore the forces that shaped the land we call home.

At the end of the session, you’ll also get some hands-on time with real local rocks and minerals. Whether you’re a seasoned geology fan or just curious about the world around you, this is a great chance to learn, explore, and discover something new!

Join us for Solar SUNdays! 🌞 Come by Martin Park Nature Center between 2 and 4 p.m. every Sunday this month for a chance to look through a solar telescope. We’ve had so much fun with the OKC Astronomy Club and our Solar Sundays at Martin Park Nature Center! Come out today from 2:00-4:00 and enjoy the “cooler” temperatures with us. Take a safe peek at the sun through solar telescopes and let the kids do a sun craft! See you soon!
