🚨 Attention Oklahoma Residents and Guardians 🚨
It's time to address a critical issue impacting our community. In 2022, Oklahoma suffered the loss of 717 lives due to unintentional opioid overdoses. This number is not just a statistic; it represents real people, families torn apart, and futures cut short. What's even more distressing is that this figure has nearly doubled from the preceding years of 2021 and 2020.
Opioids do not discriminate. They affect individuals irrespective of age, race, gender, or prior drug use. It's a common misconception that only habitual drug users fall victim to these overdoses.
The stark reality is that substances like fentanyl are not confined to illegal street drugs. They are being clandestinely mixed into counterfeit prescription medications, including commonly used drugs like oxycontin and Adderall, which are prevalent among students as study aids.
These fake pills are infiltrating our communities through various channels, from street dealers to social media platforms such as Snapchat and Facebook.
This post serves as an educational tool, aimed at raising awareness among concerned citizens and guardians. It's imperative that we all remain vigilant and informed about the dangers posed by these counterfeit drugs.
So, what can you do as a concerned parent or loved one? Start by having open conversations with your family and friends about the dangers of consuming non-prescription drugs or pills. Additionally, consider having naloxone (Narcan) on hand. Naloxone is a nasal spray that can quickly intervene and reverse an opioid overdose. Administering this drug is straightforward and does not have any adverse side effects.
Let's unite in our efforts to combat this epidemic and safeguard our loved ones. Share this post to spread awareness and help keep our community safe.
