Katie Walters and Michelle Morris, event chairpersons for the upcoming Oklahoma Project Woman fundraiser, were guest speakers at the August 13 meeting of the McAlester Lions Club. The fundraiser will be held September 24, 2026, at the McAlester Expo.
Oklahoma Project Woman is dedicated to improving access to breast health care for uninsured Oklahomans with limited financial resources. Through early detection and access to necessary treatment, the organization works to help decrease the mortality rate from breast cancer.
Since 1998, Oklahoma Project Woman has provided more than 81,500 vouchers for breast cancer care to individuals across the state. Through the program, 1,008 patients have been diagnosed with breast cancer, allowing them to receive the care they need.
These vouchers provide clients with access to mammograms, diagnostic procedures, and surgical services at no cost to them. For many Oklahomans, this assistance can make the difference between delaying care and receiving potentially lifesaving treatment.
Katie and Michelle encouraged Lions Club members and the community to support the September 24 fundraiser and help continue the important work of Oklahoma Project Woman. The event provides an opportunity for the McAlester community to come together in support of breast health, early detection, and access to care for those who need it most.
