When we created this Nursery, we said we wouldn’t get attached to the kids, we wouldn’t watch them over 24 hours & a few others that we laugh about still to this day. We get attached to every single one of them. We often get asked how many times families utilize the Nursery. We don’t put a limit on that, just like we don’t limit the # of times they can get help with diapers & formula.
We won’t share all the details to her story, but when this mom reached out to us a few years ago, she was staying at a dv shelter & was working at night. She needed us to watch her so she could save up money to get them a place. She was so excited to finally get a place for just the two of them.
She called again when they were kicked out of that shelter on a Friday night & had nowhere to go. Because you supported us, we were able to get them in an air bnb so she could breathe for a bit. She had nothing for either of them. She had some money set aside, but not enough yet. Her daughter ended up going into Dhs/CPS custody & we ended up fostering her (which we said we wouldn’t do lol). As always, we go where we are led. If it’s God’s plan, we have learned not to question that. She worked her plan, but it took a lot longer than it should have because of staff turnover, new workers, etc. She worked hard though & never gave up. Her baby girl needed her.
Fast forward a couple of years & we were able to celebrate her 3rd bday with her & her closest friends she has met through the Nursery. They recently got their apartment & she needed a mattress for her bed. Once again, we just laughed & said “we don’t do that anymore but…..” If it is given to us, we will pass it along.
So the answer to that question (how many times do families utilize this) is it varies. We never know actually. What we do know is that this little girl is loved by so many & her mom isn’t raising her alone. Her Dhs case is closed & they are together, the way they should be. She’s a great mom who loves her daughter. Those are the stats we care about most & will always cherish. We are grateful for each & every one of you that have contributed, continue to in any way, & or those that have prayed over this much needed resource. We are & will continue to base our services on prevention & keeping families together (if at all possible).
We help without qualifications, documentation proving they have custody of the kiddos, whether they are married, working, whatever the situation. We can do so because you continue to show up. You are making a difference in so many families’ stories. We wish we could share them all. This continues to fill in so many gaps that other resources can’t help with because we are willing & know if we don’t, then who will? We are only able to do so because you are our village & help keep us afloat.
We are continuing to see an increase in requests as well as a few moms getting their places (yay!) & they are starting over with nothing. We added some mattresses, bedding & pillows to the wishlist if anyone wants to help fill those. We can also connect you to them directly if you have some household items for them. This isn’t our norm, but what is?

For the first time ever…..we are completely out of wipes. We have none!!! We give each family enough for a month. Most resources only give a week’s worth but these families usually catch a ride to pick up (or they can’t get one so we take directly to them). We know it helps not having to worry about diapers the following week. We are one of the only organizations to provide pull-ups & we are also completely out of those!!!! We need all sizes of pull-ups as well as sizes 4-6 (diapers).
