Kari and her son experienced homelessness.

When they came to City Rescue Mission, they needed a safe place to stay and time to plan their next steps. With support, Kari worked hard to move her family forward.

Today, Kari and her son live in their own apartment, and Kari is creating the life she always wanted for her family.

Her story is a reminder of what can happen when families receive stability and support to overcome homelessness.

Welcome to the Board, Lt. Dale! 🎉

We’re excited to welcome Lt. David Dale with the Oklahoma City Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Team to City Rescue Mission’s Board of Directors.

As supervisor of the Homeless Outreach Team, Lt. Dale works with people experiencing unsheltered homelessness every day and has seen City Rescue Mission’s work firsthand.

“City Rescue Mission has consistently been a reliable resource for those seeking help. I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact the organization has and the many resources it provides to our community.”

Lt. Dale says City Rescue Mission’s Christ-centered mission also aligns closely with his own values and made joining the board a natural decision.

In his work, Lt. Dale often meets people at a difficult point in their lives. As a board member, he’s looking forward to seeing more of what happens next.

“I’m most excited to witness the recovery and restoration side of the Mission — the part I don’t always get to see in my current role. I’ve heard many encouraging stories over the years, and now I’m looking forward to meeting the individuals whose lives have been positively transformed by City Rescue Mission.”

He also hopes our community better understands that the work happening here goes far beyond meeting immediate needs.

“Beyond providing food, clothing and shelter, the Mission partners with clients to help them build more productive and sustainable lives.”

Serving a Full House takes a lot of teamwork. 🧡

Every day, more than 300 men, women and children call City Rescue Mission home.

That also means serving breakfast, lunch and dinner every single day.

🍛 Through July, we've served 87,170 meals.

Behind every meal is a crew of staff, volunteers, food donors and community partners helping make sure no one has to wonder where their next meal will come from. Thank you for helping us keep the tables full and hope on the menu.

Now this is how you start the school year strong! ✏️🎒📚

A few weeks ago, JMA Energy and their employees collected all of the amazing school supplies pictured here for families in City Rescue Mission’s housing programs.

Their employees gave generously, and JMA Energy made that generosity go even further by matching their contributions — helping provide even more backpacks, supplies and back-to-school essentials for our families.

For families who have recently moved from homelessness into a home of their own, expenses can add up quickly. Having school supplies ready for their children means one less expense to worry about as they continue working toward stability.

Meet Lauren Kiefner, an attorney and one of the newest members of City Rescue Mission’s Board of Directors. 🎉

For Lauren, joining the board is an opportunity to become more involved with an organization that was already close to her heart.

“City Rescue Mission is a special place. It is both a safe haven and a launching pad for those who are looking to reshape their lives.”

As she begins her board service, Lauren says she’s looking forward to using the blessings and skills she’s been given to help City Rescue Mission serve more people. She has also enjoyed learning more about the work happening beyond emergency shelter — from the ongoing support clients receive after moving into housing to the different ways our Recovery Program helps people work toward lasting stability.

And there’s something Lauren hopes more people in our community understand about our neighbors experiencing homelessness:

“Many of the people who walk through City Rescue Mission’s doors are just one connection away from stability. By investing in our neighbors and connecting them with the right resources and support, we can help create lasting change.”
