Being a part of the NW OKC Rotary Club gives the opportunity to give back to the local community. Yesterday our club presented a donation to Oklahoma Lawyers for Families and Children. The donation was made possible from our Santa Photo booth that has taken place annually for the past 47 years at The Shoppes at Northpark. Being able to donate to organizations such as OLFC makes being a Rotarian that much more enjoyable and impactful. With the month of April being Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month, for every $10 that is donated to OLFC, they will plant a pinwheel in their front lawn. If you'd like to donate to them or find out more about their work, please visit their page or website at www.olfc.org.

This past Tuesday, the NW OKC Rotary Club held their weekly luncheon at Quail Creek Golf & Country Club where we heard from Keli Cain with the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management - OEM. The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) prepares for, responds to, recovers from and mitigates disasters and emergencies. The department maintains the State Emergency Operations Center, which serves as a command center for reporting emergencies and coordinating state response activities. OEM delivers service to Oklahoma cities, towns, counties, tribes and other public and private sector entities through the network of more than 300 local emergency managers.

OEM also maintains, regularly updates and exercises the State Emergency Operations Plan. The department provides funding and/or assistance to local emergency management departments throughout the state.

Although not seen on a large public scale, after hearing from Keli, you understand how large a part they play when disaster takes place. If you are in need of help from a disaster, please visit their website where they help guide you:

Today during our weekly NW OKC Rotary Club luncheon at Quail Creek Golf & Country Club, we heard from Rebecca Parks with HeartLine, Inc. At HeartLine, they are a support line and a lifeline for everyone in our community. Our confidential crisis lines and helplines run 24-hours-a-day and seven days a week. Give us a call or use our online directory to connect with local resources such as food, shelter, medical, financial support and more. Heartline has connections and resources for both 211 and 988 calls, along with having means of connecting through Chat messages as well. When looking at the statistics of those in need, a person can see how important their work is. To learn more about the service they provide to our communities, visit their website - https://heartline.ok.networkofcare.org/211/

Our club will not meet next week due to Spring Break. Our next meeting will be March 24th where we will hear from Oklahoma Children's Health Foundation. If you'd like to learn more about Rotary, please join us at one of our weekly luncheon's.

Every child deserves the confidence to walk into school feeling equal, prepared, and proud. For many families, something as simple as a new pair of shoes can remove barriers, restore dignity, and open the door to opportunity. Programs like P.E.T.S. and Buckner Shoes provide new shoes to children who need them most, helping them focus on learning, growth, and their future instead of what they lack.

If you’re attending P.E.T.S., consider bringing a new pair of shoes to donate. Your small act of kindness can make a lasting difference and remind a child that their community believes in them.

This past week in place of our normal luncheon, we volunteer for one of our Service Projects at Feed the Children. After hearing about Feed the Children and the numbers they serve throughout the world, we got to load boxes that would eventually be shipped from their warehouse. From our groups efforts, we were able to place food in boxes that filled 7 pallets with 42 boxes each. The amount of food that was boxed up was over 3 tons. (Some volunteers reported not being able to walk the next morning). Service above Self is one of our items in our 4 way test, and today we practiced serving others.

Through our Santa Photo Booth fundraising project, our club is able to help many organizations in the Oklahoma City and surrounding areas. Today we donated monies to the Putnam City Schools Foundation to go towards their efforts in helping children in the Putnam City Schools. Part of their programs are to help children along with teachers in their District. The Putnam City Schools Foundation is doing great work in the District and NW OKC Rotary Club is proud to have our volunteer efforts help them in their Mission. To learn more about PCSF, visit their Facebook link - Putnam City Schools Foundation.
