American Farmers & Ranchers Youth Program With American Farmers & Ranchers, education remains a core value.

Youth participating in AFR programs learn through activities such as speech contests, livestock judging, award trips, and statewide leadership camps. The organization awards more than $25,000 in college scholarships in addition to numerous county level scholarships.

AFR Cooperative is in Sapulpa today to administer the written test for students competing in the northeast area of the Livestock Handling Contest. Best of luck to all participants!

The livestock handling contest provides youth the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skillsets through real world, hands on cattle handling. Students are tested on their knowledge of all aspects of the beef production industry and their abilities to safely and correctly process live cattle.

Happy National Cooperatives Month!

Each year at Leadership Summit, AFR Youth members learn about the cooperative system and in turn, run their own Coop Store for the duration of camp! The store is stocked with AFR Youth merchandise and ran by an elected board. Through this process, students learn how cooperatives function, develop their own marketing strategies, and become more aware of the impact cooperatives have in their local communities and beyond!

AFR Youth Members Taryn McCaa and Darla Fesmire recently traveled to Washington DC along with other AFR Staff for the National Farmer's Union Fly In. While in DC, McCaa and Fesmire were able to meet with legislators, attend information sessions and meet with National Farmers Union staff. They also spent time planning for upcoming events they will host as part of their duties serving on the NFU Youth Advisory Council.

Fall is here but we are still reminiscing on the best days of summer. This year, AFR Youth is proud to begin a tradition honoring the legacy of two past AFR Youth members. The Outstanding Camper Award in memory of Jake Simpson will be awarded each year to a teen session camper who embodies the traits that Jake brought to camp - someone who leads with a genuine heart, lifts up those around them, embraces every moment with enthusiasm and helps make camp feel like home.
The Legacy of Leadership Award in memory of Bella Clay will be presented to a Senior camper who embodies the traits that Bella brought to camp - showcasing true servant leadership, leading with kindness, humility, resilience and a genuine love for others, someone who always makes others feel seen, valued and included.

The 2026 Outstanding Camper Award in memory of Jake Simpson was awarded to Quinn Cowley. Quinn received a full scholarship for the 2027 AFR Leadership Summit.
The 2026 Legacy of Leadership Award in memory of Bella Clay was awarded to Kain Dossett. Kain received a scholarship to apply towards future educational or leadership endeavors.
