It was both an honor and a privilege to recognize one of Local 124's most dedicated members for an extraordinary milestone—70 years of service.

Brother Leon R. Manek was unable to attend Local 124's 77th Awards Dinner and Apprenticeship Completion Ceremony on June 6, 2026. This afternoon, Business Manager Jerry Hovarter and retired Business Manager Perry Sneed had the pleasure of visiting Leon and his family at their home to personally present him with his 70-Year Service Pin.

The visit was filled with great conversation, cherished memories, and stories from a lifetime in the trade. At 92 years young, Leon recalled his experiences with a clarity and enthusiasm that made it seem as though they had happened yesterday.

Reaching 70 years of membership is a rare accomplishment and a testament to a lifetime of dedication to our union, our trade, and the values that have built Local 124 into what it is today.

Congratulations, Brother Manek, and thank you for helping pave the way for the generations that followed. Your legacy will continue to inspire the members of SMART Local 124 for years to come.

Preparations are complete for SMART Local 124’s 77th Annual Awards Dinner and Apprenticeship Completion Ceremony!

This special evening will celebrate the accomplishments of our 2026 graduating class of new journeypersons, apprenticeship contest winners, and recipients of 15-, 25-, 40-, 60-, and an extraordinary 70-year Service Pin Award.

It will be a night filled with pride, recognition, and fellowship as we honor the dedication, hard work, and achievements of the members who help make SMART Local 124 strong.

We look forward to celebrating together and recognizing the individuals whose commitment continues to shape the future of our Local.
