Deputy Sheriff Brian Hayden, 47, had served with the Nicoma Park Police Department eighteen years before becoming a Choctaw County Deputy Sheriff in January 2012.

About 9:30 p.m. the evening of Thursday, April 19, 2012, Deputy Sheriff Brian Hayden, along with his K-9 partner Sampson, was in route to a “shots fired” call. Driving behind Deputy Sheriff Hayden was Choctaw Tribal Police Officer Josiah Moore, 29, headed to the same call. Both officers were driving with red lights and sirens engaged west bound on State Highway 70 about three miles west of Soper when Deputy Sheriff Brian Hayden attempted to turn left on to a county road and was struck in the driver’s door of his Chevrolet pickup by Tribal Officer Josiah Moore. Deputy Sheriff Brian Hayden was Mediflighted to Hugo Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Tribal Officer Josiah Moore was flown to a hospital in Plano, Texas, in serious condition but survived. Deputy Sheriff Brian Hayden’s K-9 partner Sampson also survived the crash.

Deputy Sheriff Brian Hayden was survived by his wife Tabitha and his five children from a previous marriage.

Brian Hayden is buried in Valliant Cemetery, Valliant, McCurtain County, Oklahoma.

Alan Gerald Whicher was born July 12, 1954, at Oak Park, Cook County, Illinois to Victor and Bette Whicher.

Before his death the morning of Wednesday, April 19, 1995, when the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was bombed, Agent Alan Whicher, 40, served in the New York field office, liaison division, vice presidential protection detail and the presidential protective division. Agent Alan Whicher had been one of President Clinton’s personal bodyguards until being promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Oklahoma City field office seven months before his death. President Clinton attended Assistant Special Agent Alan Whicher’s funeral in Rockville, Maryland.

Twenty minutes before the bombing Special Agent Alan Whicher had phoned his wife Pam at home to give her a pep talk and wish her good luck before she gave a speech that day at a women’s Bible study at Oklahoma City University.

Special Agent Alan Whicher was survived by his wife Pam, daughters Meredith and Melinda and son Ryan.

Alan Whicher is buried in Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Montgomery County, Maryland.

Robert Westberry joined the Naval Investigative Service in 1969. Prior to that, he served with the Daytona Beach Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol. Robert Westberry served a year in Vietnam for the Naval Investigative Service and then joined the Defense Department in 1972. Robert Westberry spent six years in South Carolina and seven years in South Florida before he requested to be sent to Oklahoma City so his wife could be close to her mother who was in failing health. Robert Westberry served for two years as the Special Agent in Charge for the Oklahoma City office of the Defense Department’s Defense Investigative Service until his death the morning of Wednesday, April 19, 1995, when the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building occurred. Robert Westberry had intended to retire in two years.

Special Agent Robert Westberry, 57, was survived by his wife Tillie, one son, two daughters and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter.

Robert Westberry is buried in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, Forest City, Seminole County, Florida.

Special Agent Larry Turner, 42, was an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper for nine years prior to joining the Defense Investigative Service in 1986. A member of the Black Troopers Association and the Omega Psi Phi fraternity, he was a deacon in his Baptist Church and played clarinet in the church orchestra. Larry Turner was on his way out of town on an assignment the morning of Wednesday, April 19, 1995, when he stopped by his office in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City shortly before a truck bomb exploded at 9:02 a.m. killing him.

Special Agent Larry Turner was survived by his wife of twenty-two years, two sons and one grandchild.

Larry Turner is buried in Oaklawn Cemetery, Monticello, Drew County, Arkansas.

Senior Special Agent Claude Medearis, 41, was transferred to the Oklahoma City U.S. Customs field office in 1992, from Texas where he had served as a U.S. Customs Agent along the Texas-Mexico border between Eagle Pass and Del Rio, Texas.

Agent Claude Medearis was promoted to Senior Special Agent in Charge of the Oklahoma City U.S. Customs office shortly before his death in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building at 9:02 a.m. the morning of Wednesday, April 19, 1995.

Senior Special Agent Claude Medearis was survived by his wife Sharon, son Michael, daughter Catherine and four grandchildren.

Claude Medearis’ earthly remains were cremated.

Murrah Federal Building at 9:02 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 1995.

Special Agent Kenneth McCullough was survived by his wife Sharon, a son and a daughter.

Kenneth McCullough is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma.

Mickey Maroney was the youngest of eleven children and was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. Maturing to six-feet five-inches in height, Mickey Maroney was recruited to the University of Arkansas football team by Assistant Coach Barry Switzer. Mickey Maroney was defense end with Arkansas when they won the National Championship in 1964.

Mickey Maroney became an agent with the U.S. Secret Service in 1970. Special Agent Mickey Maroney, 50, was killed in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building at 9:02 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 1995, in Oklahoma City.

Special Agent Mickey Maroney was survived by his wife Robbie, son, daughter and stepson.

Mickey Maroney is buried in Resthaven Gardens Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Cleveland County, Oklahoma.

Michael Loudenslager, 48, worked for the General Services Administration (GSA) as a planner/estimator on the first floor of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.

At 9:02 a.m. the morning of April 19, 1995, a truck bomb exploded in front of the Murrah Federal Building destroying most of the building.

Captain James Rouse of the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office was one of the first law enforcement officers to arrive on the scene of the bombing. He was immediately contacted by Reserve Deputy Loudenslager who was in the Murrah Building when the bomb exploded but survived the blast. Captain Rouse activated Deputy Loudenslager to help with rescue efforts. Deputy Sheriff Michael Loudenslager rescued a couple people in the building before contact with him was lost. His body was found April 23 under rubble of the building that had apparently collapsed afterwards.

Reserve Deputy Sheriff Michael Loudenslager was survived by his wife Bettie and their two children Diana and Kyle.

Michael Loudenslager is buried in Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma.

Special Agent Donald Leonard, 51, was serving his twenty-fifth year as a Secret Service agent and had planned to retire that year when he was killed in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City the morning of Wednesday, April 19, 1995. During his years with the Secret Service Special Agent Donald Leonard was responsible for protecting seven U.S. Presidents plus various political candidates and dignitaries. Special Agent Donald Leonard had also served three-and one-half years as an Oklahoma City Police Officer prior to joining the U.S. Secret Service.

Special Agent Leonard was survived by his wife Diane and three sons Brad, Jason, and Tim.

Donald Leonard is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma.

Senior Special Agent Paul Ice, a native Oklahoman, was one of the first U.S. Customs agents assigned to the Oklahoma City office in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in 1988. At 9:02 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 1995, Agent Ice, 42, was standing at the desk of investigative assistant Patricia Salyers in the Customs office on the fifth floor when a truck bomb exploded in front of the building killing Agent Ice. Salyer’s desk fell three floors into the area that once had been the day care center. Although she sustained serious injuries, she survived.

Special Agent Paul Ice was survived by his two daughters, Miranda 15, and Sarah 19 and is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Apache, Caddo County, Oklahoma.

Peter DeMaster first came to Oklahoma as an AWACS instructor at Tinker Air Force Base.

Agent Peter DeMaster was survived by his wife of thirteen years Kay Barry-DeMaster, daughter Kristin, 21, and stepson Brian Berry.

Peter DeMaster is buried in Resthaven Gardens Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Cleveland County, Oklahoma.

Harley Cottingham, 46, had been an agent for the Defense Investigative Service for eleven years when he was killed in the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City the morning of Wednesday, April 19, 1995. He had served in the Navy 1969 to 1973. In 1980 he joined the U.S. Veterans Administration as a Veterans Outreach Counselor. In 1985 he joined the U.S. Department of Defense Investigative Service. Special Agent Harley Cottingham had served in the Omaha, Nebraska and Colorado Springs, Colorado, field offices before being assigned to the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma office in 1991. Harley Cottingham was an avid golfer and had recently played the historic links at St. Andrews in Scotland.

Harley Cottingham is buried in Lewiston Cemetery, Union, Cass County, Nebraska.
